View Full Version : Anyone meet or write to any of the actors??? Frischman_Fan 09-26-2006, 12:10 AM Just curious. I'd like to know what the actors were/are like in person. :) MrBand 09-26-2006, 08:14 PM I never personally met any of the cast, but I did have the pleasure of being present at the NY Port Authority in August, 2000, when TV Land and Joyce Randolph unveiled the statue of Ralph Kramden that proudly adorns its entrance. She spoke lovingly and eloquently of Mr. Gleason and her time in his employ and I have to admit it brought a tear to my eye when the timpani roll that heralded the familiar Honeymooners theme crescendoed through the speakers of the Port Authority and she unveiled the statue. I realized at the time that I never would see the Great One or his most famous Alice, but it was still a rush. VIDEOWACK 09-26-2006, 10:34 PM I've had the pleasure of meeting Jackie Gleason in 1964 following a taping of AMERICAN SCENE MAGAZINE, Joyce Randolph in 1983 at a R.A.L.P.H. fan club Christmas party, she signed an 8 x 10 for me. I spoke to Audrey Meadows over the phone when she was on a local radio call-in show in the early 90's. Art Carney is the only one I had no personal contact with, except a signed photo of him coming up out of the sewer which I wrote and asked for, and which I believe is a "pre-stamped" autograph, but still very nice to have. Well!? What were they like you never told us, please don't leave us in the dark.  VIDEOWACK 10-04-2006, 11:46 PM Well!? What were they like you never told us, please don't leave us in the dark.  Gleason was very friendly, not at all the boisterous "Great One" personna he had on screen. As I remember, he actually seemed a bit shy and layed back, very courteous to those who wanted to take his picture. I remember he got in the FRONT seat of the limo, rolled the window down and blew his famous kiss to all of us. I also remember being taken by his clothing. That 3 piece suit with the carnation in the lapel. My friend asked him if he was ever going to have Art Carney on the show again (this was in March 1964) and he said he didn't really know, but sure hoped so. Ironically, just a few weeks later, before the season ended, Carney would do a "surprise" walk-on during Gleason's monologue. Joyce Randolph was very sweet and soft spoken and she seemed to be quite taken by all the attention Honeymooners fans were giving her. She didn't seem to mind my interrupting her dinner to sign my photo of her and Carney...she didn't even hesitate. The radio station phone call to Audrey Meadows was very quick and of course non-personal. I had asked her what, if any difference there was in doing the filmed shows vs. the live. Her answer was what we'd expect: no difference to speak of. I figured she'd say that, but I had to come up with something quickly. |
