Guys,

There is a small continuity problem in "Beaver Makes a Loan." This is the one where Beaver needs 25 cents for a new school notebook. Ward doesn't have change, so he gives Beaver $1.00 and says Beaver owes him 75 cents.

Beaver gets to school and Larry forgets his money for a new notebook. Reluctantly, Beaver gives him his dollar, but uses up all his money cuz the guy at the bookstore says that he couldn't buy anything else till Larry paid what he owend before.

Beaver spends his allowence early and needs movie money for the weekend. Upset that Ward never got his 75 cents and Beaver being careless with his money, he refuses to give Beaver money for the movie.

Larry's mother gives him 75 cents (In those days, according to her "enough for the movie and a soda afterwords.") Larry says, he is going to pay Beaver back the money he owes him. Larry's mother has a hysterical nervous fit about Larry borrowing money. On the way to Beaver's house, he meets up with Whitey and Gilbert who are going to see the movie. They go to the movie and stop at the soda shop afterwords. Beaver at Ward's request goes down and buys a newspaper and overhears that Larry spent the money with which he was supposed to reemburse Beaver, and they get into a big verbal fight.

Eventually, Larry feels bad and comes over to Beaver's house with all of his stuff like he's gonna run away and the boys make up. Beaver gets his money back. BUT notice one thing: Ward never got his 75 cents change back from Beaver that caused the chain of events in the first place!

Maybe Ward could recoup it by reselling Wally's corsage that that snooty girl was oblivious to!

Ward's refusal to give Beaver his "movie money" was the penalty for not paying Ward the change; and since Larry's movie & soda money was 75 cents, it's a fair assumption Beaver's was the same. Therefore, if Ward was to get the 75 cents back Beaver, Beaver should be entitled 75 cents anyway. It seems when Ward gave Beaver the dollar, he should have just said that his notebook money and also his movie money, just a day early. Why make a conflict about 75 cents he is going to give back to Beaver anyway?

Beaver has to learn one of these days NOT to trust his friends--they never keep their word!

My 2/100th of 1 dollar on this financial issue:

We don't really KNOW that The Beav didn't re-pay Ward the 75 cents. It could very well be one of those "assumed" things that's not detailed in a sitcom script.

If Beav got the money back from Lawrence Mondello, it's a safe bet that Ward did get his funds back from The Beav.

If Beav didn't give back the cash, you can bet that Ward would have taken it out of Beav's "fine, soft flesh"! (Oops...that's from another "Universal Studios" production -- 1960's "Psycho". My error.) :)

I thought ward didn't give beaver his allowance, because of the 75 cents.
I thought the 75 cents "was" the allowance.
Thats the way I took it.
