I like this show, but one thing that has always bothered me is the casting. They don't look like a family. Not one person has any resemblance to another. A short son from two tall parents, two sisters who look completely different and little Andy, who is adorable but could just as well have been adopted.

It's an 80s sitcom. They don't have to get the correct gene makeup right. What matters is the chemistry between the actors, no matter what.

Look at Meredith Baxter Birney and Michael Gross. Both born the same day and year. What more chemistry can two actors have??? They look and played the part as though they could have been married in real life. Meredith herself stated that she could had found a better actor to play the part of her husband only if it was her own husband, David Birney at the time. I only wish there could had been more storylines about their relationship because they reminded me a lot of Dick Van Dyke and Mary Tyler Moore of The Dick Van Dyke Show where their relationship came across real on screen. The original DVDS Mary was only to have a small part but end up being a breakthrough character and on Family Ties Baxter Birney and Gross was supposed to be the highlight of the show but Michael J. Fox end up being the focus of the show.

I'll agree that they didn't look much like one another, but you have to ask yourself, do you want kids that look the part or actors that gel together on screen?
