Paul Jack1000 09-23-2006, 08:42 AM In the episode where beaver swears at Allen after getting tripped is there any speculation as to what Beaver actually said? I say a**hole or a** realy curious what people think? Paul It's not Allen, it was a big kid named Arther. This topic has been brought up before with some interesting ideas. In watching Beaver's mouth closely, I remember that some thought he said, "a$$***e." It had to be pretty big for its time! I wonder if the director had Jerry actually say the word, or just mouth it? It would be great to find out what he really said! Jack frani 09-24-2006, 10:42 PM Honestly, I don't even remember if people really said the word a--hole in the 50's. I'm not saying they didn't, but as a kid, I don't think I ever heard it, and if I didn't, I'm not sure Beav would have either. In a way, it's totally out of their world that anyone cursed. I mean, if anyone was going to curse, it was Eddie Haskell and we never hear him do that. I think the word might have just been a--. But you really have to understand that cursing in the 50's was words like damn and hell. Maybe bitch. And maybe ass. To say the f word or anything worse was really unheard of for a kid. frani 09-26-2006, 07:39 AM In fact, the more i think about it, a word like bastard might have been more likely, or my father's favorite, rat-bastard. This were pretty bad words back then, especially for a kid and would have definitely shocked Miss L. Also bastard would have look similar in Beav's mouthing it. I just don't think the word a--hole was used back then. Jack1000 09-30-2006, 08:18 AM Interestingly enough, I heard that in one of the LITB books that Frank Bank was known to swear on the set from time time time and Barbara didn't like that. Ken Osmond, according to Barbara herself and other cast members was EXTREAMLLY quite and mellow, if anything the anti-equivilant of Eddie Haskell. I will always say that Ken was so outstanding in this role, that he should have won an award for his performance. Jack Just My Show 10-01-2006, 11:14 PM this question in an interview I did with him for my podcast a few days ago after seeing the episode recently and reading this thread. To hear what he said, head over to my site... www.justmyshow.com (http://www.justmyshow.com) Here (http://www.justmyshow.com/shownine.html) is the direct link to the Tony Dow interview. Hope you enjoy it. frani 10-02-2006, 01:36 PM Wow, that was incredible. Loved the Just My Show podcast. TD sounded great and you asked him such great questions. You also cleared up that mystery about what the Beav said. I'm certainly going to listen more to your podcast. Great stuff. Congrats. pmschar 10-02-2006, 11:23 PM Thank you everyone for your responses and thank you for the great Tony Dow interview, however it certainly did not clear any thing up as far as what the Beav said. I was hoping Tony would have had a guess or some inside info. I imagine we will never know, Perhaps an interview lined up with Gerry Mathers will answer it once and for all.
