Oo Oo *raises hand* Me! Me! Actually, I just finished watching it. I was not overly impressed but I'll have to watch more episodes to make a real judgement. I'll probably hang in there with it for at least the whole first season.

I don't really like how they're un-nerd-ifying Star Trek. You can tell they are trying to appeal to a braoder and probably younger audience. I mean come on....a gratuitous mutual "shower" scene where they sensually swab oil all over each other? A theme song with words? Written by Diane Warren? Can we say "desperately trying to be hip"? I don't think Star Trek can ever be very hip or mainstream. But I think that's part of its charm.

I watched it. I think that it certainly was interesting. I really enjoyed the opening, which, for those who didn't see it, was a wonderful montage of space travel with a great theme... with SUNG WORDS! I also liked how they tied Captain Archer's child-hood into the "moral lesson" of the episode. I think that the story-line is nice and am looking forward to more episodes. (I taped the episode, but lost the connection for about 20 seconds.. I hope it re-airs soon, 'cause if it does, I'm gonna re-tape it).

Fear not, though, on Sunday (I forget which time), the episode WILL re-air, as every episode of the series will (I did a little clicktv.com search after I made that post). So I can re-tape it :-)

I think there were a number of mistakes like a theme song with words, more sex, blood, and Vulcans never lose their temper that easily. But it is an improvement to DS9 and Voyager.
I think Rick Burman is getting more desperate, though. But if Enterprise does manage to grab a younger audience, or any audience at all, I will be satisfied.

To me, nothing can ever beat the Picard years...

Personally, I'm not really so fond of the new version. Give me TOS and TNG....

Whoooooa. Back up there a minute. You've only seen one episode and already you're saying it's better than 2 entire series? You must REALLY hate DS9 and Voyager to be able to say that so early on.

As for the question of who is Kirk.....that would be Captain (later Admiral) James Tiberius Kirk, captain of the Starship Enterprise that we all know and love from the original series of Star Trek from way back in the '60s. He was played by William Shatner, recently seen trying to sing in Priceline commercials, and he was in Miss Congeniality as the host of the pageant.

As for Vulcans never loose their tempers that easily...I am not sure if you are referring to T'Pal or that guy in the beginning who was some high-ranking Vulcan dude, but one thing people tend to forget with Vulcans is that they are still individuals. The do experience emotions, they are just able to supress them better than humans, and some Vulcans are better at suppressing them than others. It is all based on their level of mental discipline, and it makes sense some Vulcans would be more disciplined than others.

I'll give you points for the Vulcan statement. Bootsy, you are just to smart for me!

Another thing to consider about these Vulcans is that they've been involved VERY VERY closesly with Earth (more than likely living there, thought it was never actually established) for a long time! And another thing to consider is that the producers decided that as a species they just weren't as disciplined then a century later (though, I would think for there to be such a dramatic change in their attitudes, there would have to be a dramatic change in what you may call their "environment", but that has also not been established).

And, I agree, there was a risque scene, but, in comparing it to other scenes from say ST:VOY or ST http://www.sitcomsonline.com/ubb/biggrin.gifS9, it wasn't all that risque. (I have nothing against it, but when Jadzia kissed that other woman trill...)

And a last note. The theme song captures what the whole series is about. "It's been a long road... It's been a long time" is referring to the fact that the Vulcans have suppressed information and taken information from the humans, and that they have taken a couple of centuries to try to achieve the warp that they acheived with the Enterprise. I really like it.

Soooo....what do all my fellow Trek Nerds (take it as a compliment) think about the second episode?

So far I like Enterprise. I actually kind of like it more than I thought I would.

I think it's kind of cool that Hoshi is so unsure of herself....I mean, I like it when the occassional Star Trek character shows some weakness, since so many of them are always steadfast, never fear, and contain vast amounts of knowledge that they never forget. I like Lt. Barclay too for those same reasons. Too many Star Trek characters are too perfect. It seemed like tonight they were teasing us with perhaps some deep-seated trauma or something about why she is scared of everything, like as if she really wanted to tell the captain....

Anyway, on a side note, I'm wondering why she didn't need to wear a biosuit when she took Sluggo to a planet with an Argon atmosphere....oh well....

I thought it was better. I am still having a hard time tolerating T'PAL because of her attitude...but I am trying to keep an opened mind. I actually found that that episode reflected what Star Trek is suposed to stand for. It was about people. I liked them showing weekness, and I believe there was a lesson in there somewhere.
