View Full Version : Your favorite foods you make at home you can't get in restaurants
gilligan fanatic 09-17-2006, 12:30 PM I haven't been home for lunch in a long time, probbably a month, because I usualy work the weekends and I am at school. Well I just finished making my favorite sandwhich and I know for a fact that no restaurant makes it because it is so bad for you-lol I call it a Hoagie Dog. It is a Hoagie Roll with 2 hot dogs, a steak-um, lettuce, tomato, mayonaise, mustard, relsish, onion powder, garlic powder, and cheeze wiz on the top. I don't eat it like a hotdog because it is to big, I eat it like a sandwhich, but I cut it. I don't eat chips or anything with it because of how much stuff is on it and I probbably won't eat a big dinner tonight, but the sandwhich is great.
What are some foods you make at home you can't get out?
Beef Ravioli. At restaurants, they only have cheese so that is a food(one of my favorite foods) that I can't get at a restaurant.
Janice 09-17-2006, 08:41 PM I make a pasta dish that my mother used to make. I cook hamburger, onions and peppers in a frypan. When that's cooked, I add it all to a pot of tomato sauce. Then I add cooked elbow macaroni to that. It's tasty. :happyface
tdf4077 09-18-2006, 12:04 AM well, even though you can get macaroni and cheese at some restaurants, it's just not the same quality you get from out of a box!
treky 09-18-2006, 12:16 AM a dish I like to make is: 2 or 3 boneless chicken breasts, cooked, and cut into peices, flavored rice (Rice-a-Roni, Zatarans, etc.) peas, corn, or mixed vegtables (frozen or unfrozen) and a can of chicken gravy. Put it all into a frying pan (quantities don't matter-just add what looks like enough! ) and put it over medium heat for about 5 minutes and stir it so it doesn't burn-you can also use leftovers-in fact, this is a good way to use them up!
Brieannas21 09-18-2006, 01:15 AM Well I cook this and my husband loves it......Well I make a pasta sauce ((Homemade sauce, not the stuff out the jars because that stuff out the jars gives my husband heartburn)) Then I cook zeti , add the sauce, add cooked italian sausage and lots of mozzarella. I bake it for 15 to 20 until the cheese melts. It's pretty darn good
TripperFan 09-18-2006, 12:34 PM My mom's butterscotch pie recipe!! We always used to say she should have marketed it! Delicious!
Also, not really a food, but I've never had maple syrup on french toast. I was brought up to put margerine, sprinkle some sugar and then squirt fresh lemon juice over that to moisten. Might sound strange at first but it's delicious!!
Also, when I was just starting out and was waitressing, the owner would sometimes make us a treat of something he called "Greek Grilled Cheese". Like a regular grilled cheese only with back bacon (sorry friends in the U.S. - only in Canada) and then small, whole mushrooms. Man is it good! ;)
cmcb06 09-19-2006, 12:13 PM Oh, one in paticular that i've been making for a few years. Is my famous BBQ Chicken Pizza. Same as a regular pizza but you put on bbq sauce instead of tomato sauce, and chicken bits. Than cook for 18-20 minnutes. And wala. I am convinced that Tombstone stole my recipe or had a great imagination. Because i was making it for quite some time before i noticed that Tombstone had a frozen one available. Another thing i love is "Funeral Potatoes" for those who have not heard of it, it's kind of a Mormon thing. Mostly prepared for funerals. Kind of a casserole, with potatoes, sour cream, mixed cheeses and smashed up fritos, or Kellogs Flakes sprinkled on top. Tastes superb.
KristinHerreraFan 09-19-2006, 04:08 PM NOBODY can make peanut butter cheesecake as good as mine. :)

I'm the opposite. I love getting macaroni from Logans steakhouse, it's so good.:liplick: I've never been a big fan of the boxed stuff I have to really be in the mood for it.
