Hey my friend was telling me that paramount pictures has bought CBS did anybody hear about that and could it be true

Paramount owns viacom too. If you look at recent TV shows (I don't know which ones however) their new logo is the Paramount mountain in a white rectangle with the cbs logo beside it. Or something like that.

The whole CBS/Viacom situation is a little complicated. They used to be all under one umbrella. Now CBS Corporation and Viacom Inc. are two separate entities. CBS Corporation includes the CBS network, the CW network, CBS Paramount Television, King World, Showtime, Simon & Schuster, and others. Viacom Inc. includes MTV Networks (MTV, VH1, Nickelodeon/Nick at Nite, Comedy Central, CMT, Spike TV, TV Land, and Logo), BET Networks, Paramount Pictures, Paramount Home Entertainment, DreamWorks, and Famous Music.

To answer studd911's question, Paramount Pictures is a subsidy of Viacom Inc. CBS Television Network is a subsidy of CBS Corporation.

As long as the two are separate, the STAR TREK Rights and Licensing will continue to be a mess. Paramount holds only the film rights (well, technically or to be more specific, Star Trek was part of Paramount Television, but CBS now controls it), but lets CBS Consumer Products handle the film licensing; CBS Still holds the rights to new TV series, but is held back by Paramount not wanting a series on TV while the films are profitable. In effect, CBS and Viacom don’t compete with each other, since they have different content. Whereas CBS is focused on TV, Viacom is focused on movies. CBS Consumer Products handles all the TV era licensing as well.
