Did anyone else watch Brokeback Mountain?, I did and was not too impressed. My partner and I watched it together, he cried and I could not wait until the movie was over so I could do something else with my time. We have several friends (obviously gays ones), one friend said that he watched it at the movies of a dozen times and cry everytime. Am I the only one that this movie did not affect?, it not nothing for me............rather boring to me.

If anyone has seen it, please let me know what you thought of it.

I found it tedious and not particularly moving. It certainly didn't live up to the hype. Also, I was distracted and a bit baffled by the way Heath Ledger chose to play his character. I get that he was trying to convey a repressed personality, but I couldn't understand him half the time and, because he was so closed off, I didn't find the relationship between the two men at all believable. Most of it just reminded me of all the "Brokeback" parodies I'd seen. I did like the cinematography, though.

I watched the first 40 minutes or so of it, and had to turn it off. It was definitely one of the most boring, and pointless 40 minutes of my life. Worst than watching paint dry!! I'm not trying to be a smart ass either, I honestly tried to get into it, but I just couldn't. I tried watching it with my mom actually, and we just looked at each other, and almost at the same time said, this sucks, and turned it off. You definitely have to have quite an attention span to get through this film.

I actually really loved this movie, although I do agree it dragged on at points and could've been a little more condensed. What can I say--I love Jake Gyllenhaal :biglove:

Nah I thought it was really well done. The directing, screenplay, acting - it was all wonderful. The cinematography might have been the best of the year. I don't recall thinking this film ever dragged, but I only saw it once in theaters when it was released. I really loved the two characters and how it all affected people around them. I liked how it was also about society as a whole too. Great film. Brokeback Mountain got robbed. Crash should not have won.

I wouldn't call it just another love story? What then would you exclude out of that "typical" catagory? I'd say the film is a lot about society as a whole & what is considered accepting. I'd also say it's about choices & family life. I personally think there is a lot more going on besides just a "love" story.

Well, there's millions of people who disagree with you on that. Crash was a superb film, and it deserved all the kudos it got.

:nod: I totally agree. There were so many tragedies in this film, not only with Jack and Ennis, but with the wives and society as well.

I'd call it paint drying, but that's just me. Crash won because it was BY FAR the better film.

I agree. Actually, out of the nominations, I would have preferred Capote, but anything over Crash would have been better. But yeah, I thought Brokeback was an excellent film.

You'd be surprised about how theres a million people who'd actually agree with me as well. I liked Crash quite a bit, but there were other films nominated and not nominated that should have won. Crash was good, but it was an overdone, melodrama that was all over the place at times. I still enjoyed it, but it was pretty sloppy for a best picture win.

I thought Capote was fantasticly acted in every way. Catherine Keener is becoming one of my favorie actresses and there is no doubt that Hoffman deserved his Oscar - but I have to say, the movie itself wasn't as good as I wanted it to be. I still liked it though.

Munich was my personal favorite out of all the nominations - but Spielberg wasn't going to win, but I was really happy to see it up there. Good Night and Good Luck was a great surprise movie too. I really liked that. I wish Junebug & Walk the Line would've got nominated too. Actually the bigger upset to me was Amy Adams not winning Best Supporting Actress. I just can't believe it. It still makes me mad. Rachel Weiz is a great actress but it shouldn't have been for that role. Adams gave one of the best performances I've ever seen. If you haven't seen Junebug, you really need to.

You aren't going to find any love story that Casablanca hadn't said. Million Dollar Baby won the previous year but that wasn't anything that said anything new in a story. You just gotta find the film that captures want you hope to get out of it and give you even more. That's what truly makes a great film.

I've never seen a movie that I felt mattered that took a more of a right turn than "Do the Right Thing." Not only was I insulted, I never bought the turn of events in that movie. Sorry, that movie was a cop out.

I dont think "Crash" was some cinematic masterpiece or anything, but I certainly think the motivation in the characters in that movie were more than valid then when Mookie trashed the pizzeria in "Do the Right Thing"

A cop out was Haggis' sloppy script that involved about 15 different people, and intersecting it together. On my first thought of the movie, I was impressed on how it came together, but the more I thought about it, the less I liked it. It's just funny saying that Do the Right Thing good such a turn when really, Crash took about 5 of those twists to make it back to one conclusion.

I still like it, but I can't help the academy chose it because of the "theme" of moving forward with racism in LA but rather is 17 years too late from Do the Right Thing. The biggest thing for me is that, it says the same thing - in different storylines about 10 times. The overlapping storyline worn off first viewing and rather felt like it was trying to say too much. I'm much happier with Brokeback Mountain for example that has many themes going on with one storyline along with how subtle it actually is.

I've said this before & I'll say it again. I often find myself arguing about Crash. It's not that I didn't like the movie I did. Haggis did a good job of putting together a film that is clearly with it's flaws but rather - somehow has a very well put together impact when it's all over. Somehow it pulled off it's effectiveness. I'd give it that.

It doesn't surprise me that millions of people agree with you. Brokeback made almost 100 million in theatres, which is more than Crash made, so obviously alot of people feel the same way as you. I'm not denying that. I'm just saying everyone I know loved Crash, while most of the people I know who saw Brokeback were pretty much split 50/50 on it, as they usually either loved it, or hated it.

Catherine is one of my all-time favorite actresses. I'll pretty much try any movie that she's in, just to see her acting. I thought Walk the Line REALLY got robbed of a nomination. That would have been my choice to win the award had it been nominated. I felt the same way about Junebug that you felt about Capote. I thought all of the other supporting actress nominees were more deserving than Rachel, but I was rooting for Catherine, just because I'm biased towards her.

I agree. Weiz was by far the weakest performance. The Constant Gardener was a decent movie. Nothing I'd tell anyone to rush out and see. I still don't understand how she even won. Adams, Keener, Williams were all great nominees. I actually forget the 5th nomination.
