If Linda Lavin was the star of the show, and pushed Polly Holliday out of it for that reason, why was Alice out of the picture so often after the Flo era? It seemed, after that point, she was only around to give other characters advise, sing once in a while and would occasionally return for a full episode featuring Tommy. On those few episodes, she really wasn't the same either. I was a fan of the original witty Alice and when the show had to do with her character dealing with more realistic situations.
