Ann was going kind of crazy in her room because she turned 36 years old-lol Staring and Talking to herself in the mirror and crying while her birthday party was going on in the other room. I'm thinking she was acting like this because she didn't have a man at this point of the show?-lol I asked my mom was she depressed at turning 36 and she said-"HELL NO! lol

Ann was silly. I turned 38 this year and I wasn't depressed, LOL.

My mom wasn't depressed when she turned 40 or 50

I agree, maybe this episode idea would have worked in the 1981-82 season when she turned 40 but not 36

JULIE: You're 36, Mom .. not 56.
BARBARA: Julie's right. The average life expectancy today is 72. So to be
middle-aged, you'd have to be .............

I asked my mother about this episode and why would the character cry on her 36th birthday. She said 36 was an age you did not want to become back then, and even being 30 was considered "old." I guess people looked at ages differently then. She also said that in the 1960s if you weren't married by age 25 people started losing hope for you and you were headed quickly into "old maid territory."
