She was late 40ish and was still hoping for a family of her own, I would have thought she would have had enough sense to just know that her time had passed and just focus on finding a nice man. But not a FAMILY-lol

View Full Version : At Florence's Age, I'm surprised she was still concerned about having a Family-LOL TVFactFan 09-08-2006, 07:21 PM She was late 40ish and was still hoping for a family of her own, I would have thought she would have had enough sense to just know that her time had passed and just focus on finding a nice man. But not a FAMILY-lol Ireneparalegal 09-08-2006, 07:36 PM You already made a thread abt this a few days ago. Remember I told you abt as long as a woman still has her cycle, she can still reproduce. It wouldn't be wise, as genetically she may have a child with medical problems, but ordinarily, women can and do have babies in their 40's. My sister did. My biological mother did...so many women have kids late in life. She can also adopt. Brian Damage 09-08-2006, 07:42 PM When the "clock" ticks, you can't ignore it. lol Ireneparalegal 09-08-2006, 07:43 PM She didn't. She even said something abt her biological clock ticking, which made her think abt marriage/kids. Still, it can't stop a woman from adopting. Mr. Television 09-08-2006, 07:54 PM Yep my Mom was 44 when my youngest sister was born. TVFactFan 09-08-2006, 07:59 PM But Florence 48/49-lol It was over, Ireneparalegal 09-08-2006, 08:03 PM Did she tell you she had menopause? Again, there is ADOPTION. Or marrying a man who may have children. TVFactFan 09-08-2006, 08:07 PM Did she tell you she had menopause? Again, there is ADOPTION. Or marrying a man who may have children. But we know Adoption was the furthest thing from her mind Ireneparalegal 09-08-2006, 08:13 PM But we know Adoption was the furthest thing from her mind How? She wanted a family, she didn't mention how. TVFactFan 09-08-2006, 08:17 PM How? She wanted a family, she didn't mention how. Watch the ep-"Baby Love". It wasn't about being a Mother, it was about her wanting a Man who she could start a family with Ireneparalegal 09-08-2006, 10:20 PM You can start a family with a man by adopting. Of course, if she hadn't hit menopause, she could have kids...but one can start a family by adopting too. TVFactFan 09-08-2006, 11:32 PM You can start a family with a man by adopting. What you are saying is True, but that's not what Florence wanted Ireneparalegal 09-08-2006, 11:56 PM So then it is safe to say that Florence was still capable of having kids. TVFactFan 09-08-2006, 11:59 PM So then it is safe to say that Florence was still capable of having kids. Ok I think you misunderstood what I was saying-lol I was saying that since Florence was mid to late 40ish, she should have just focused on finding a male companion instead of having kids. Why start a family when you are that old? Ireneparalegal 09-09-2006, 12:19 AM Why not???? TVFactFan 09-09-2006, 12:26 AM Why not???? Because it doesn't make sense to me to taking care of a baby in your 50's, Ireneparalegal 09-09-2006, 01:01 AM It may not make sense TO YOU...but it does happen and it happens A LOT! Unless you know for sure what Florence's age was during that time, what sense does it make to talk abt her being too old? Janice 09-09-2006, 01:42 AM Tell that to my sister and a few other ladies I know... Miracle babies. I just read about eight articles stating that it's almost impossible for a woman to conceive naturally after the age of 45. There are exceptions, but it's rare. I also think it's safe to assume that Florence was at least 45 years old. Ireneparalegal 09-09-2006, 01:58 AM That's what my sister thought, but her doctor told her the same thing that I am providing here: MYTH: women over 45 can't get pregnant FACT: If you have not yet reached menopause, you can still get pregnant regardless of your age. I had my tubes tied when I had my son at 36 because my doctor advised me that birth control was not 100 percent effective and she was worried abt me becoming pregnant again because of my back injury and my age. I told her I thought as I got older the chances were slim. She laughed at me and said, "Unless you become menopausal tomorrow, you can still become pregnant." I took her advice. http://www.mothersover40.com/advantages.html Janice 09-09-2006, 02:05 AM Here's an eye opener. http://www.washingtontimes.com/familytimes/20050326-103552-4353r.htm retrochick9 09-09-2006, 12:28 PM Did she tell you she had menopause? I totally forgot, my boyfriend's mother was pregnant with him when she was 45!!!!! And this was in 1957 mind you. And the women I mentioned as having a baby in their mid 40's did so WITHOUT IN-VITRO or any means other than the "old-fashioned way"...my own biological mother had me when she was 42. It is not uncommon for older ladies to become mothers. Unless you know for sure what Florence's age was during that time, what sense does it make to talk abt her being too old? Irene we can look at the Florence Character standing next to Jenny and tell she was 20 years or more older-lol So her age was obvious. What Florence was hoping for was something that females think about when they are in their early to mid 20's, not mid to late 40's-lol Ireneparalegal 09-09-2006, 03:30 PM Florence can't help how she looked. She looked older than what I think was a woman who was at THE MOST 45...she may have been anywhere from 40-45. Her looks got better as the seasons went on. There is nothing said abt Florence's age. And the fact that the writers had the character mentioning "wanting to start a family" implies to me the character of Florence was NOT OLD as you seem to want to imply Solomon. As for women over 45 having babies, it may have been a rarity back then, or to some people, but it has happened a lot. TVFactFan 09-09-2006, 03:35 PM Florence can't help how she looked. I'm discussing today, not back then. I posted recent articles. It's rare for a woman to conceive naturally after the age of 45. It happens, but it's very rare. That's a fact. If you can find an article that states that a woman's reproductive system is in great working order at age at 45 and beyond, please post it. Solomon, don't you know by now that when George said stuff, especially to Florence, it was going to be rude and crude and sarcastic? If he said that comment abt not being as old as her, you will take that as a fact? He could have said, "I ain't nowhere near as stupid as Florence" doesn't make it a fact. As for the reproductive systems of women over 45, it's a moot point simply because we don't know Florence's age, but she certainly was not 49 as Solomon pointed out and until he provides proof of her age, then what is the point of arguing with a man who thinks that no woman over 40 should be thinking abt having babies? Makes no sense to me...regardless, a woman's reproductive system is definitely not what it is at 20 years of age, but that doesn't mean she can't become pregnant by any means or carry a baby. TVFactFan 09-09-2006, 11:25 PM In his mind, anyone older could be one year...George was always saying crazy sarcastic s**t. Well he said it in season 3 ad he was 47 so if that meant she was one year older that meant she was LATE 40's-lol Brieannas21 09-10-2006, 01:15 AM My aunt had her first baby at 42, she's raising him just fine on her own. My little cousin is now 12 and my aunt is 54. So some a women in they're 40's can still have a baby weather they're married or not. My grandma had my uncle when she was 45. Not having a man doesn't stop a woman from wanting to have a baby. You can't help the way you feel, if your ready or not to have a baby. comedyfreak 09-10-2006, 03:00 AM My Mom was 39 when I was born and my Dad was 48. My Dad passed back in '81 and my Mom is still around, she's now 82. Florence could have met someone with children and made them part of her family, even if she couldn't have a baby. Plus there is always adoption. nerrad 09-13-2006, 01:13 PM I was just surprised that Florence never had a steady man. I know it was only a show, but if you check her attitude over the years, you can see why. BTW, my mom (who birthday is today) was 38 (my current age) when she had me. BTW, my mom (who birthday is today) was 38 (my current age) when she had me. Probably because she had nothing to offer. Bundy 09-16-2006, 11:40 PM Off topic, but I read recently that Marla Gibbs was married at the age of 13, and had three kids by the time she was 20 years old. I read that too, but the IMBd lists her being born in 1931 so she would have gotten married in 1944 and start having kids around that time, but I looked in my Ebony September 1980 edition that featured the Jefferson cast and Marla Gibbs kids ages are listed as daughter Angela (26), sons Jordan (23) and Dorian (17) and it have a picture of Marla and Dorian at his recent high school graduation (1980). So according to this, Angela was born in 1954 or 1953 when Marla was 22, Jordan in 1957 or 1956 and Dorian in 1962 or 1963. (they may not have had their birthdays yet). Her kids look like they were rather young in these pictures.
