They released a crap show like Gidget, yet The Patty Duke Show is still not available. Maybe one problem is the show was made in black and white, and these days black and white stuff in general doesn't go over too well. If The Patty Duke Show does get released, I hope they don't ruin it and colorize the episodes. The show should remain in the original, glorious black and white.

This show should have been announced by now. I thought there were rumors of it coming to dvd a while back. It needs a revival. The first season package would be fantastic with so many great episodes. I would love to see this get a dvd release soon. Who owns the rights? Does anyone know?

I believe MGM owns the rights. A DVD release is long overdue.

I agree -- I could use some better quality episodes...

About 2 and a half years ago, it was announced MGM was very pleased with the sales of shows like Mister Ed and Green Acres and were planning to release others such as F-Troop (already released S1) and Patty. Unfortunately, I have not heard anything since, but then in the interim I believe the rights have passed on to some other company, perhaps Sony. They released S3 of Green Acres one year ago but I don't think they were very happy with the sales since we haven't heard anything about S4 of Acres. I think the distributors are reluctant to market a B&W sitcom these days unless it's a sure-fire sales winner for them like I Love Lucy or Andy Griffith.

I wouldn't be surprised if that is the reason. Sadly; you never see any black and white sitcoms rerun anymore, exept for Andy Griffith. Even I LOVE LUCY isn't shown that much anymore.

That's a shame because I would love to see a nice remastered release of Patty.

Yea, the problem is it's a black and white show and regardless I don't think the demand is high enough to warrant a DVD release. I'll just hang on to my set of episodes from Nick At Nite and hopefully DVD's will eventually be available for purchase.

Gidget was indeed a crap show, but it was filmed in color and Sally Field has remained somewhat popular over the years, that may have been enough to justify the DVD release. And since there was only the one season, they probably figured no big loss if not many DVD sets were sold. I'm sure they realized people were not going to arrive at the stores in droves to buy the Gidget DVD! :lol:

Gidget is not for everyone, but I thought it had some cute eps & I do like Sally. And Gidget is vintage Sally. Also liked the Dad character. But the show did have it's lame moments. Unf. many shows do. The Patty Duke show never did and I always liked The Patty Duke show a whole lot more. Also Patty is a GR8 (and IMO unappreciated) singer. Also the PD show had some great guests on it. And yes, WHY ISN'T PATTY ON DVD? I'd eagerly buy it if it were. And BTW, if you're ever in NYC, you can see a few eps of The Patty Duke Show in the video viewing library @ The Paley Ctr (formerly Mus. of Televison & Radio)

Yep, Patty could sing pretty good as well. I remember there's one episode from the 3rd season where she sings the song- Funny Little Butterflies. Great 60's teen pop. For me, Patty Duke portrayed the ideal 60's girl in this show. Not a knockout gorgeous babe, but cute, perky, cool and fun to hang around with. It's interesting how the mood of the show changed with the last season, it seemed kind of somber during that last season. There were still funny episodes, but I think Patty had aspirations of being a dramatic actress and the show also took on a little more of a dramatic tone for the last season. One episode in particular towards the end of the series, titled Do You Trust Your Daughter? is especially dramatic. Patty is very hurt because she stayed out late with a guy, tried to explain what happened but her father assumed she just ignored her curfew and came home whenever she felt like it. When her dad finds out what really happened to cause Patty to get home late, he is remorseful and there's a real tender moment then with the two of them at the end of the episode. I think this is probably the most dramatic episode of the series.

yea; I remember seeing that one on NICK AT NITE back in the late 80s. Then, in the last scene, she's just sitting on her bed, strumming a gutair, thinking things over, and her father comes in, they start talking and he apoligizes to her and is saying how much he loves her. Then he leaves, she stops strumming the gutair, and starts crying. Like you said, probably the most dramatic and tender scene in the series.

I also liked "Say Something Funny To Me". Did she ever sing this on the show? Also Patty does some pretty nifty singing in "The Valley Of The Dolls"-- esp. in the telethon seq. w Joey Bishop.

I haven't seen this show in years, ever since NICK AT NITE was showing it in the late 80s/early 90s; but I remember they used to show a promo for the series; that showed her singing. You're right; she did have a good voice!
