View Full Version : What did Carol Brady do for a living?
tashacakes 09-07-2006, 12:31 AM I know this question has probably been asked before, but I looked back a bunch of pages and couldn't find it. So what did Carol Brady do for a living? Stay at home mom that did pta and so on?
Thanks in advance for the response :)
Ireneparalegal 09-07-2006, 12:39 AM Nothing. Alice did everything.

I always wondered about that. Why have a housekeeper if you're a stay at home Mom?

For comic relief!!
Yup, Carol didn't do anything for a living... being a stay-at-home Mom/homemaker is hard work, but as Irene correctly pointed out, Carol didn't even do THAT... Alice did, indeed, do it all.
We learned early in life to bring our dishes to the kitchen after a meal, and the Brady kids never even did that... after dinner in the living/dining room, or even breakfast at the kitchen table, they'd just walk away, leaving Alice to do all that stuff.
Later on, (in "The Brady Brides" series) Carol became a Real Estate Agent (I guess she's the one who found that home for Jan and Philip and Marcia and Wally). Wonder how many times Carol had to take the Real Estate exam before she passed?
tashacakes 09-08-2006, 01:11 AM That's what I was remembering, that she was a real estate agent at some point, I just didn't know when! Thanks for the help! :)
Alice didn't know how to drive, so Carol's job was to chauffer her houskeeper around on errands.
;)

Only once; but Alice took the test for her.

I'm pretty sure that's a job an a half already!
TV Knowledge Fan 09-18-2006, 05:38 PM ...what did Carol do for a living BEFORE she married Mike, I don't know. Nothing was ever mentioned about how she supported her daughters in the pilot episode. She had to have SOME kind of job and income to feed, clothe and give Marica, Jan, and Cindy some kind of "normal" homelife...but we never find out about THAT part of her life. Only Sherwood Schwartz would know that part...

brgmgb 09-19-2006, 09:06 PM I always assumed she moved back in with her parents after her first husband died. (I have always assumed he died). Maybe he had a big life insurance policy.
Scoobiedoo30 09-24-2006, 02:51 PM What Test did Alice take for her
PracTz 09-24-2006, 10:07 PM Yeah, it seemed after her first marriage ended 'a few years' before her 2nd wedding, she'd moved back into her parental abode with her three daughters but had not had any kind of paying job. This, in spite of the fact, that it would later be revealed that she had gone to college.
No doubt her parents so close to retirement age who'd provided for these four all that time then thrown the Brady Wedding in their backyard were so grateful for the nonstop appreciation and efforts the Bradys made to keep them in their lives over the next four years after the honeymoon!
She did a lot of community work. Save parks, stop smoking, that sort of thing.
Flying Dutchman 09-15-2016, 01:13 PM It was the 60s/70s, when stay at home mom was still possible. Carol did the shopping sometimes, and did the cooking sometimes as well. She would also help the kids with their homework, unless it was math and Marcia, then it was Mike.
Babalu 12-25-2016, 03:40 PM It was never shown onscreen but I believe Carol sold Wesson oil out of the garage.
Tankeryanker 02-07-2017, 10:06 PM I think that Carol being a stay at home mom and having help is not that abnormal if you lived in a certain income bracket.
Making a home (and not just having a house) takes a lot of work (think June Cleaver). A sit-down dinner with fresh flowers on the table and six kids wearing clean clothes with their homework done take some doing.
Then if she was going to have any time with Mike after dinner took somebody doing the dishes and it was easier to have Alice do them or have her help the kids do them.
TVMakesMeHappy 03-01-2017, 10:07 PM It was status, help, and because Alice was then already a member of the family. Carol helped out at home and did charity/community work.
Dude111 03-03-2017, 09:47 AM I dont think Carole did much but if she did,did they ever say??
Retro4Life 03-03-2017, 09:56 AM Alice was a carryover from when Mike and the boys were "on their own". Wasn't there actually an episode where Carol felt kind of useless since the kids relied on Alice for everything?
Torgo 03-03-2017, 10:04 AM She did a lot of community work. Save parks, stop smoking, that sort of thing.
She also made realistic sculptures of her husband's head.
