I WAS WONDERING IF ANYONE ELSE SAW THIS DIFFERENT STROKES MOVIE THIS WEEK. I WATCHED IT MAINLY TO SEE IF CHARLOTTE RAE OR FACTS OF LIFE WAS MENTIONED IN ANY WAY. THEY BOTH WERE.

WELL, SOMEONE PORTRAYED CHARLOTTE ALLRIGHT. THEY WERE REALLY EMPHASIZING THE HIGH PITCHED VOICE, WHICH I DIDN'T EVER REALLY THINK ABOUT WHEN I WATCHED D.S. OR FACTS-EVER. SHE WAS JUST MRS. G.

SHE WAS PORTRAYED ALSO AS A LOVING PERSON TOWARD THE KIDS, BUT SOMETHING DISTURBED ME.

I HAVE ALWAYS READ THAT CHARLOTTE WAS GIVEN THE PRIVILEGE OF CARRYING HER OWN SHOW, AND IF IT DIDN'T WORK OUT, THEN SHE'D HAVE FREE LICENSE TO COME BACK TO D.S.

HOWEVER, ON THIS "UNAUTHORIZED" D.S. STORY, IT LOOKED AS IF THE BIGWIGS NEEDED SOME EXTRA $ FOR D.S., SO THEY DECIDED ON TELLING CHARLOTTE ABOUT A NEW SHOW FOR HER TO STAR IN, AND MADE IT SEEM THEY WERE OUT FOR HER BEST INTERESTS, WHEN THEY IN FACT HAD A HIDDEN AGENDA.

I HOPE THIS IS NOT TRUE. BESIDES, I GUESS THE LAST LAUGH WAS ON THEM, SINCE FACTS OUTLASTED DIFF'RENT STROKES!

I didn't watch the D.S. movie and I don't know the real story, but I wouldn't put it past the producers to do something like that. By that I mean doing something for the money, but pretending they were trying to help Charlotte instead.

I'm not saying this is true because I don't know, but I do know of another popular sitcom that producers did something similar to another actor, but in that case it didn't work out and the actor eventually got screwed over when a spinoff didn't work and they tried to return.

Though if this were true, it probably doesn't much matter since Charlotte got the last laugh. FOL was not only successful, but like you said, had a longer run. Heck, it's still the longest running sitcom with an all female leading cast.

Besides, Charlotte probably got more fame as Mrs. Garrett from FOL than she ever would have had if she stayed at DS in a more supporting role.

I saw some of the movie.

Since it was an unauthorized movie, that means the original producers of DS DID NOT HAVE ANY INPUT WHATSOEVER in this movie...so, your guess as to whether it's true or not may have to be researched.

I watched it. I knew there would be someone playing Charlotte Rae and I wanted to see it.

I, too, am not sure if it is true. If it is, then they tried to screw her. And instead, she won big time with an even better show than D.S.!!!! :D

The movie did take some dramatic licenses with some of the quotes and scenes. I'm sure Charlotte would have been allowed to return to DS if FOL had failed. She wouldn't have been screwed like Norman Fell and Audra Lindley, who got their own spin-off and couldn't come back to Three's Company. They used 2 other actresses to play the housekeeper on DS, so I don't think they would have recast the part.

Since it was unauthorized, they couldn't use the DS theme song and the set was completely different.

I saw the movie. It was sad to know how the kids were mistreated. I did like the shots of Mrs. Garrett/Charlotte Rae. Julie Brown played her. I liked the young Kimberly. The young Arnold is on Thats So Raven.

I saw the movie. It was kinda sad. I didn't know Dana's mom kept running off and leaving her. :(

But as a side note, the guy that played Gary's manager Dion was an absolute doll! So gorgeous! (The REAL Dion is nice looking too!):D
