It makes it more official to actually see the cover. VEI is becoming my new favorite TV-on-DVD company. I hope they continue the "Gimme a Break" releases. There are only 4 more after this one. Maybe this will be their first complete series. I think we should all e-mail them and let them know how much we are enjoying the dvds to give them indication of the demand from fans.

I still have not gotten the 1st Season yet. I remember this show like it was a trip to the 80s itself! I know I should buy it because it has a good Bebe's Kids connection, especially in the 1st Season of Diff'rent Strokes with the tutor who played motorcycle cop himself. I remember Nell Carter would sing and dance herself. She was one funny and talented lady. Sadly missed. By the way, I loved Bebe's Kids...we don't die, we multiply.

You would think since VEI announced the initial release as October 3rd, that either they or amazon.ca would notify their customers that the item is not being released on that date. For it to get to this stage and still no official confirmation is very odd. I mean, it's not rocket science. Either it is being released or it is not. Amazon.ca is not matching Pavan's statement that he got from VEI. Why wait until the release date to issue an official statement? It only frustrates would-be buyers. I'm guessing something went seriously wrong here and we won't be seeing Season 2 afterall for a while.

Contact Amazon to see what is up. Like someone said earlier, retailers have the information that this set has been delayed until Jan. 2007. I talked to VEI today on the phone. This is indeed the case.

VEI is a good company, they only delay if necessary. They delayed Stockard Channing to Nov. 21 because they were finding better masters. So, I'm sure the delay for GAB S2 is for the good.

And Eric777: No one ever listens to you. Have you seen anyone ever reply to you? Being disrespectful is not going to get this anywhere.

Who here has been charged for the set? Amazon doesn't charge you until they actually ship an item. Some people claimed to receive a shipping notice on Sunday, how is that possible? I guess we'll have to wait and see if anybody truly receives it. I have a hard time believing that was no communication between amazon.ca and VEI.

We can only go by what VEI has told us directly. I am very surprised that there was no notification about it.

As far as why it could be delayed, I'm sure Universal would want to release it first or around the same time. If everybody has already bought the Canadian release, what incentive would there be to buy the US release also?

That's interesting. I wonder if that is the case. Can Universal prevent VEI from releasing it first?

The strange thing about the order is that the tracking information is still not available. I'm guessing the whole thing is a glitch in amazon's system. It's the only thing that would explain it. Pavan said that VEI said no product will be shipped. If they are the ones manufacturing the actual dvd, amazon.ca cannot receive a product that they don't have. But... did they ship anything? Maybe they got Season 1 confused for Season 2 and sent out copies of that.

Richee
10-03-2006, 09:57 AM
I was charged as well for the DVD.

So if it arrives, I will take a photo/scan of the dvd, can it be denied then?

Robert.. Amazon is sent loads of copies of the product in advance. They do this so they'll be prepared for the release date. They come with a notice that says 'Do not release before ( release date here ).' and sit there until they're ready to be shipped on that date.

Now if this company has already sent out DVDs to Amazon, and other places to prepare for the release date, maybe Amazon accidently started sending them out unaware of the 'pushed back' release date.

Now some people on this forum are claiming the DVD company did NOT send out the DVDs to Amazon.. however, had this been the case, a quick notice of 'out of stock' message would be displayed on the S2 page right now.

Since Amazon claims it has been release, and now has been entered into their database, I can only guess they've shipped them by accident.

So 3 things are happening here.

1. The admins are upset that they did not get their 'advance copy' of the DVD for review, so they are making up this story of the 'pushed back' release date.

2. VEI really DID tell the admins that they did not send out any copies yet because the date has been set back, although Amazon says different. So this means we've all been charged for a phantom DVD.

3. The DVD has really been released by accident and a few of us will actually get it soon.

So this is where we are at. These are the 3 theories that have been expressed to me through posts, private messages, and email.

If I was new to the forum, I might suggest that theory 1 was the choice.. but i've been here for awhile, and I don't believe the admins would post erroneous information, as they take this DVD review stuff very seriously.

So my choice is number 3. I think the DVD has been set out, and Amazon has accidently started shipping the product. I don't believe a computer error would have lasted through 3 days of shipping, and the page for the product be updated as 'released' before being corrected. As of yet, the 'error' has still not been corrected.

I don't know who was contacted at VEI, but I think the error lies between that conversation.

That's my theory, but it's pretty much a game of 'wait and see'.

Robert 13

Here is part of the reply that I got from amazon.ca:

Greetings from Amazon.ca.

After researching your order, I found that we received this item in
time and shipped to you on October 1, 2006 and it should be
delivered to you by October 8, 2006.

The delivery estimate is based on the proximity of the fulfillment
centre to your delivery address, as well as how quickly we can
obtain and assemble your order.

It does appear I will be one of the lucky ones receiving it. I know for a fact I've had orders from amazon ship out a day or so before their release date. They do get their product in advance, as do many retailers. I've seen sets at Best Buy and FYE out a week before their release date.

I don't know yet if I was charged. There better not be a problem with this set. It's VEI's own fault for deciding to postpone it at the last minute. I don't know if Universal had anything to do with it, or if they even could try to stop them. If so, it's Universal's own fault for taking their time. I'll let you all know once I receive it.

Richee: We don't make up stories just because we don't review copies, lol. We have reported before that VEI has delayed a set (Stockard Channing). The set has for sure been delayed. The question is what is Amazon.ca doing? Theory #3 is probably what happened, but I doubt they had any copies.

Richee
10-03-2006, 12:20 PM
Pavanbadal, my no.1 theory was more of a joke. ;)

I, however, DO believe that VEI has told you that it's been delayed. Even if I didn't, there are several retailers in Canada that support it.

But I DO believe that Amazon has stock of the product, and accidently started sending them off. Either they were not aware of the postponed release, or decided to send them out anyways.

Few of us have now been charged for the item.. few of us have learned our package has been shipped.. others have recieved notice that their package is set to be shipped.. and another user has contacted Amazon, and they have verified the item is in stock and has been sent.

We can argue back and forth until we're blue in the face.. but until someone gets this phantom package, it's anybody's guess.

You're right about that, Richee. :D So whoever gets it first, be sure to post what you receive. If we get Season 2 in our hands, then there will be no doubt that the set was, in fact, produced.

I received an email saying mine was shipped too, now....so I guess we'll see what I get, lol.

(If it's another GAB Season 1 set, someone will get hurt)

Nobody has denied that the set was produced. We were told twice (once by e-mail and the other by phone) that the set was being delayed, and that they never shipped it to Amazon.ca . If people get it, it will be because of a glitch in Amazon.ca's system or some miscommunication. Nobody wants to see the set more than myself. We have only relayed the information that we were told directly. It's strange that I don't see any sets available on eBay.

So people have been charged but have no tracking information?

My tracking now says that my package has arrived in the USA....no word on exactly where in the USA, though.

Add me to the list of those who ordered it and I just received notification from Amazon.ca that it was shipped. I'm a little pissed that if it doesn't arrive (And in actuality it SHOULDN'T) that they've taken out for it. Amazon usually waits until it ships to take the money from the account, which is why when I heard S2 was delayed that I didn't cancel it and re-order it later. Argh. Although when I go to view the tracking information, it says it can't be shown ... so odds are no sets will be sent out. This is very annoying. I don't want to have to purchase it a second time later.

I received an e-mail on Oct 1 from Amazon.ca saying my set has been shipped by Canadian Post Xpress USA and they also supplied a tracking number. I'm in Ohio, so hopefully it doesn't take too long. I only ordered my set last week. Are there or aren't there sets available?

Well I keep checking my tracking info on my DVD and I still get the same thing over and over that says "We're sorry - tracking information is not currently available. Please try again later. "

I'll check tomorrow morning before work to see if it changes

I'm also showing that tracking info is not available and I ordered this set right around the time it was first placed up for pre-order. It's worth nothing that there is already a seller on amazon.ca selling the set.

Take your tracking number, and go to the Canada Post website and track it.. the one on Amazon never works, at least not for me.

The Canada Post website tracker had this info:

Product Type: Xpresspost USA

2006/10/03 14:52 International shipment has arrived in the destination country
2006/10/03 02:08 International item has left Canada and is en route to destination

The link for the Tracking site is:
https://obc.canadapost.ca/emo/basicPin.do?language=en

Paste your tracking number in the top option, and you are all set.

I have the same tracking info now. You're right, Richee. The tracking number doesn't work for me through amazon either. Pasting it in the tracking system worked. Thanks for letting us know Richee. :)

I don't know if this info helps anyone, but those of us who pre-ordered the set and were charged for it, I don't think that we have any other choice but to wait and see what happens.

Regardless of what's been said, I believe we'll be receiving the S2 package in a week or two, even if by accident.

Robert: No problem.. glad I could help. As i've said in the past, Amazon has always had a problem with the tracking status. I will keep everyone updating on my order's status each time it's updated, and until it arrives, and is in my hands.

Add me to the list of people who pre-ordered it and got the confirmation that has shipped. I checked Amazon.ca today and it now says:

Availability: This title will be released on January 16, 2007. Pre-order now! Ships from and sold by Amazon.ca.

I also tracked my order and it says this:
2006/10/03 14:52 International shipment has arrived in the destination country
2006/10/03 02:08 International item has left Canada and is en route to destination

Sooooo I'm thinking it they had it and shipped it. It reminds me of the time when I worked for Tower Records/Video and the DVD Special Edition for This Is Spinal Tap was sent to us about 4 months prior to the release date. I really wanted a copy so asked my manager and she said I could buy right away. Well, a few weeks later MGM had to recall the DVDs because they forgot to put in the subtitles (you know, the ones that introduce people in the film). It wasn't a big deal because it hadn't been released yet, and i think me and 1 other person bought a copy. I remember thinking it was strange we got it so early, because normally we got things a week or 2 weeks in advance, not a few months.

So it's very very likely Amazon.ca DID have copies in stock and shipped them on time without knowing about the delay. Regardless what VEI says.
