View Full Version : In the Alaska job episode, why did the kids seem to have no problem
Ireneparalegal 09-05-2006, 10:09 PM with moving away when they were mentioning areas that James' job was at...then when the bomb was dropped abt Alaska, the kids started saying they didn't want to move away from their friends, etc. They were all ecstatic abt moving away, James having a job,$$$$, etc. but it was different when Alaska was mentioned. No matter where they would have moved to, temporarily or permanently, they would have had to move away from their friends.

I know...
Brieannas21 09-06-2006, 12:54 AM Good question, probably because people think of Alaska as being this far away place.

My Mom said Florida should have let James go to Alaska and could have sent her $250 a Week for a Year-lol

Oh Sweet Jesus!!!!!! "THANK YOU MAMA"....tell your mom that for me please!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Damn, she is so right!!! She and I agree!!!!!!!!!!!!
When Michael said Seattle, Washington, the kids still had this big cheeser on their faces...hell, they didn't think abt their damn friends then did they????? And then, when they all came home with ideas abt how to make money at various jobs "to keep daddy home"...that was bullsh*t...we already knew they "didn't want to move away from their friends"... THEY SAID SO!!!
TVFactFan 09-06-2006, 03:51 PM i still want to know what-"Dead snow shoes"-lol
Ireneparalegal 09-06-2006, 04:46 PM i still want to know what-"Dead snow shoes"-lol
Well, let me see. One can wear snow shoes in Alaska, considering the snow and ice. Florida was telling James if he went to Alaska it would be over her dead body...hence, DEAD SNOW SHOES...which really doesn't make sense, because snow shoes are objects...Hell, I dunno Solomon, blame the writers!
Brian Damage 09-06-2006, 08:13 PM C'mon, if you were given a choice to move to any of the 50 states, Alask would've probably been your 50th choice. lol
Ireneparalegal 09-06-2006, 08:15 PM It's certainly a beautiful, clean and great place to live now.
However, the family wasn't going to move there. Only James...but for the time that the kids thought they were moving, they only thought of their friends, not their father and what a great job this would mean to him, and them. I am not arguing abt the Alaska job thing again, but the kids were excited when they thought they were moving...I can see if they said, "Alaska??...My God, it's so barren and lonely out there." things like that, but NOOOOOOOO, it was "I don't want to leave my friends."
Brian Damage 09-06-2006, 08:19 PM Just because you move, doesn't mean you move far away. Maybe they thought that it would be near by.
Ireneparalegal 09-06-2006, 08:20 PM But Michael said SEATTLE, WASHINGTON...that is far from Chicago...and there the kids were with those big ol' smiles when Michael said that...so, they had no problem with Washington, which is a hop, skip and a jump to Alaska, or as I should say, a helluva lot closer to Washington than Illinois. LOL
craftman 09-06-2006, 11:19 PM Oh Sweet Jesus!!!!!! "THANK YOU MAMA"....tell your mom that for me please!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Damn, she is so right!!! She and I agree!!!!!!!!!!!!

It wasn't just about missing their friends, Michael was worried about where they was gonna live, "Alaska's too new to have ghettos." JJ was worried that he would have to make out with eskimo chicks, and "Rubbing noses don't exactly turn me on!" And Flo didn't think she could just "Move to such a God forsaken place."

 Yeah, J.J. was always thinking abt chicks...Michael, why he wanted to move to another ghetto????? I will never know...
What was strange also is that Florida made such a big fuss about James moving to Alaska but then she turns around and moves to Arizona with Carl. Well maybe at that point it was a different situation since the kids were older.

This point always gets brought up when this Alaska topic comes up...it never fails.
retrochick9 09-08-2006, 08:29 PM I think the kids thought that in Alaska they would be living in an igloo in some desolate, remote place, lol. Back then I think people thought of Alaska as a big old pile of snow, lol.

Good answer. At least in Seattle or somewhere, they would have a chance to make friends, have a new place to settle in and get to know, etc. You are right, Alaska, at that time, was rather desolate...it's not Chicago, but it has improved a great deal from the 70's. GOOD ANSWER!!!!!!!

This was the 70's and women weren't as independent as they are today. I know my mom probably would have had a fit if my dad had taken a job that far away. But these days, some women are the head of household, and they can handle a man being away. I know I would tell my husband to take the job and wait on that $250 (or more) a week. I know that I could handle the house while he's gone. And just one year, too?!! I lived with a guy in the military for 5 years and he was gone on active duty all the time. He was gone for one year to Bahrain, and sent money home to me the whole year he was gone. I enjoyed the time apart....some "me" time. And it made our relationship stronger....."absence makes the heart grow stronger" was true in our case. Unfortunately, the relationship fizzled after 5 years. Sigh

That's a though. Seems like after Wilona told her about the entertainment, she got all upset about him leaving.

Willona was cheated on because she wasn't marriage material-lol I don't think she was aware of that. James would never do that to Florida

Wilona was cheated on because her ex couldn't keep his little man in his pants. Wilona had nothing to do with it.

Probably because of the several man she dated
Brieannas21 09-12-2006, 11:07 PM Probably because of the several man she dated
So just because she went out on dates with men means to you and your uncle, that she slept with them all????
My Freshman yr of college my boyfriend (Now my husband) and I broke up, and during that time I went out on dates, and I didn't sleep with any of the guys I went out on dates with.
Not saying that Wilona didn't get her needs met, but I'm sure she didn't sleep with every man she went out with.

So your perception of woman who goes out on a lot of dates, is that she sleeps with every man that takes her out?

It just doesn't look good for a female to be picked up by a different guy every day

Solomon....it's called DATING. When a woman dates, she goes out with different guys on a daily, weekly, or monthly basis. And it doesn't mean that she's sleeping with each guy that she goes out with. Dating means going to the movies, out to eat, etc.

Philly is no different then any other state, people are people no matter what. There's no set rules for different states.

I know someone from Philly, and I guess you're right on that point. Seems that the men there don't have much respect for women. Sure hope you aren't like that.
