If you ever notice the interrogations of Cops & Feds,
Cops are a little more sympathetic and are by the book and try to treat people charged with the crime with the "innocent until proven guilty" syndrome
While Feds do the "guilty as charged" and harrass the criminals or would be ones and treat them more like animals.
Face it, feds want to charge them so that they can get it out of the way.
Meaning that they break the rules while local cops try to go by them.
Feds won't eve get them a lawyer when they ask for one while the cops do that! Ever noticed that?

yes, but I wonder if this is really true in real life.... my brother in law works for ATF and I don't think he gets to be that free with interrogations, they are all by the book with him....

I haven't noticed. Next time I am charged with a criminal offense here in my city and a federal offense, I will have to check that out.
