View Full Version : Rosie O'Donnell: 'Winfrey Should Have Controlled Cruise'
Brian Damage 09-04-2006, 03:32 PM HOLLYWOOD - Comedienne Rosie O'Donnell has blasted talk show host Oprah Winfrey for failing to control Tom Cruise during his infamous couch-jumping escapades on her program last year.
Cruise had only been dating fiancée Katie Holmes for five weeks when he leaped all over Winfrey's furniture, pummeled the floor with his fists and shouted, "I'm in love, I'm in love."
Longtime Cruise fan O'Donnell was stunned by the public and media backlash against his behavior last year, and believes Winfrey should have stepped in to curtail the actor's enthusiasm on her talk show.
A League of Their Own star O'Donnell tells Newsweek magazine, "I saw him doing the couch jumping.
"I wasn't mad at him. I was mad at Oprah. Oprah, couldn't you have said, 'Tommy, come here! Don't jump'?"
O'Donnell insists she would have re-taped the segment with a calmer Cruise had he done the same thing on her former talk show, The Rosie O’Donnell Show, which ended in 2002.
O'Donnell insists she loves Cruise, declaring, "For me, to love someone is not to get rid of them when they do something you don't think is appropriate. I love him, and love is eternal."
James"Thunder"Early 09-04-2006, 03:43 PM Is this fool out of her mind? Rosie thinks she can go around and tell people what they should do. How could Oprah have possibly controlled Tom Cruise? I suppose big fat Rosie would have tackled had been her show.
Brian Damage 09-04-2006, 07:39 PM HOLLYWOOD - Veteran newswoman Barbara Walters has urged new co-host Rosie O'Donnell to stop blogging about The View.
O'Donnell is joining the show on Tuesday and regularly writes about what is happening in her life on her website.
The League of Their Own star complained about a promotional skit from the new season of the show, writing in an all lowercase style, saying, "i saw the new view promos.
"found myself/in the position/i loathe the most/powerless."
Walters discussed her feelings about O'Donnell's web posts with Newsweek magazine, saying, "I didn't like the blog. I'm counting on Rosie's intelligence and sensitivity and humor.
"This is, after all, an entertainment show. It is based on people who like each other and are having a good time, not on people who are arguing and unhappy."
Soon after Walters spoke to the magazine, she received flowers and a card from her new co-host, reading, "Barbara, I only want the promos and the show to be great. And I love you. Love, Ro."
Okay, when is Rosie going to leave/get fired from the View?
I say she won't make it to the end of 2006.
Ireneparalegal 09-04-2006, 08:48 PM Cruise can only control CRUISE...no one can control anyone, especially an idiot.
80sTrivia 09-05-2006, 06:11 AM If Tom had been on Rosie's defunct-show, would Rosie have stopped him from jumping up and down on her stage, seeing how googly-eyed and cloying she acted whenever he appeared on her show? I think not... and goodness help the person who dares to criticize the mighty O... (Making Barbara Walters mad isn't such a keen thing to do, either...)
gidgetgrape 09-05-2006, 09:58 AM Rosie is crazy! Tom Cruise isn't a child. He should be able to control his own behavior.

This is a train wreck waiting to happen.
Ireneparalegal 09-05-2006, 10:47 AM There is no CRUISE CONTROL...
JuicyCoutureGirl 09-05-2006, 08:36 PM I simply think that Rosie's mannish behind is envious of Oprah. She is always jumping at the chance to say something about Oprah. Who in the world can control a grown man? Sit down Rosie!
Central Perk 09-05-2006, 11:44 PM Stop hatin' on Rosie!   :p
Anyway, I saw her today on The View and she did a good job. I suggest people pick up Newsweek and read the article about Rosie for a fuller story.
Ireneparalegal 09-05-2006, 11:59 PM Is what Brian posted not accurate? If not, then maybe someone can post the accurate story...
It seems to be accurate to me. I did read the newsweek article.

Actually, both were accurate, sorry I thought they were just snippets that didn't give the full story. However, I think the blog issue is quite minor actually and in no way will jeopardize her job at The View. Has anyone actually watched Rosie? I think she's doing a great job and she seems to get along well with everyone.
Ireneparalegal 09-06-2006, 01:09 PM I never watch daytime television but I would like to see how she does.
I am curious, if she came back to daytime television, then why did she leave her hit talk show??? anyone???

She left the show because "the b*tch wasn't so nice anymore", and she ticked everybody in her company off.

TV Knowledge Fan 09-06-2006, 04:10 PM ...Oprah SHOULD have controlled Tom Cruise's behavior before he jumped on that couch.....but there wouldn't have been a "memorable moment" for her to exploit....now, WOULD there?
I have this feeling Rosie and Barbara won't be facing each other on camera too often...two egos butting heads together- "The Queen" vs. "The Street Urchin"- I'll betcha ONE of them will be gone before the end of the year, and it won't be the "Co-Executive Producer" and part-owner of the program!!!!

They will be butting heads for sure! I still don't know why Baba Wawa picked Rosie of all people to replace Meredith, I still think it's a bad idea. Not only will Rosie butt heads with Baba but also her and whiny Hassleback will be butting heads as well due to Whiny's super annoying stance on anything conserative.
Ireneparalegal 09-06-2006, 04:58 PM On the entertainment news they showed a snippet of the show and I don't know if it's just me, but it looks like Joy Behar didn't look very happy. As if Rosie was getting all the attention, the laughs and because Rosie was being funny (something Joy is used to doing)...anyone notice this?

Yes I have noticed it and started laughing my butt off. Joy knows how over the top Rosie is so why get all huffy? I can see this show sinking like the Titanic come the beginning of next year.

Me thinks, Joy is used to being "over the top" herself and when you get two giant heads like theirs, it can lead to negative vibes.
Brieannas21 09-07-2006, 05:14 PM I doubt it since Joy and Rosie have been friends for over 20 years.
Central Perk 09-10-2006, 10:15 PM I honestly don't think Rosie or Barbara will be butting heads. They've been friends for a long time and the episodes I saw last week showed everyone getting along. Even Rosie and Elisabeth seemed fine with one another.

Let's not forget that Rosie O'Doughnut is a whinebag liberal.
