Episodes, in the Eps-"The First Store and "Change of A Dollat" they always have her in that BUN shairstyle, the one she wore on All in the Family and the First season of the Jeffersons. Was that Louise's Worst Hairstyle?-lol

Considering that every other hairstyle she wore on the show was a wig I don't think that hairdo was so bad. Many of her wigs looked too much like wigs and not like anyone's real hair. To me when she had the bun Louise was more down to earth. Also many of the wigs were way too big because they had to distract from Isabel Sanford's weight gains (same thing with her wearing a lot of jewelry in some episodes).

I saw a special about Norman Lear and he was rehearsing a scene with the Jefferson actors in the 80s and Isabel had the bun hairdo- so perhaps that is how she wore her hair when she wasn't performing or doing something formal. The bun do makes her look older though.

I read in Jet Magazine from a 75 issue that a lot of black people had a problem with that hairstyle because he made her look like an old south mammy. I'm thinking that's why she got rid of it

I never knew this. Actually the bun at the top of her head was a braided hairpiece so she always wore some type of artificial hair in her role as Louise. Florence wore her hair like this in The Odd Couple except her bun was at the back of her head.
I didn't have a problem with her bun. I didn't know old south mammies had perms? If she wore a kerchief on her head or an Afro that would have been another story.

Well she had her hair like that on All in the Family for 4 years-lol I think the woman from That's My Mama had a similar Hairstyle as Louise during that Timel

I think back then they mostly had white hairstylist so that's why a lot of black women on TV shows wore wigs and hair pieces. And plus putting curling irons and things on your hair everyday would damage it. SO I can see why Isabel wore a wig all the time.

I hated that hairstyle. It made her look older and not as pretty. Isabel was a beautiful woman and the hairstyle was just horrendous. I think because of the fact that they were "not rich" that was done on purpose, to give Louise the look of not being too made up.

I never thought about the white hairstylist thing. That makes sense. Actually most black women on tv in regular roles until the 80s either wore wigs or had afros because either the perm or the hot comb would damage their hair or the Caucasian stylists couldn't do their hair justice. Roxie Roker, Berlinda Tolbert, and the woman who played Ms Buchanon on the White Shadow are about the only black women who always had straightened hair although Roxie wore a wig a few times.
