It's been years, literally, since Season 1 was released on dvd. Paramount needs to take a chance on continuing the series and release Season 2. It had some of the best episodes like "Drive, She Said" and "Bridal Shower". I wonder if they are planning to release anymore or if this is just a closed subject to them. :confused:

Paramount says that due to low sales and overwhelming issues with music rights, there are no future plans to release any further seasons....

Garry Marshall says that the entire series will be released, with the next season's release coming "sooner rather than later"

i wouldn't offer any false hope, but I like to think that there has GOT to be a way that they can continue this series on DVD - surely there is as much demand for it as any of the other shows that have already been released?

Really?? I hope Garry Marshall knows better than Paramount. I wonder if he is trying to release it exclusively. I'm not sure how it all works with legal issues but if Paramount is not releasing it, I wonder if Garry himself can acquire the rights to release it, should he want to. Surely, some company can better foresee the show having a successful run on dvd. We never saw some of the best episodes released.

The sales didn't do too well. Still, if they keep bringing them out, I'm sure the sales will do better because any fan of the show knows that Seasons 2-5 are the best years. Let's go Paramount!!!!

I'm really hoping that Paramount releases seasons 2-8 soon. I doubt they're really jumping to make them, but I'm sure that they'll be released at some point. Perhaps if TVLand or N@N begins re-airing them again, the demand will be higher, and they'll put them on to DVD (this has happened with several shows).

Several years ago, it was said that because the sales of the first season of The Mary Tyler Moore Show weren't so good, that they were cancelling the release of the other seasons. The first DVD wasn't too terrific - it barely had an special features on it. Last year, they finally decided to release the second season (which has a lot of great extras and special features), and since then, seasons three and four have been released (in a matter of a couple of months, actually).

Hopefully, Paramount will get a wake-up call and release the other seasons, with some good features (season one doesn't even have captions...), like the second season of MTM did. I'd love to see all of the bloopers (there are tons) on DVD, as well as maybe a documentary or two, interviews with the cast, trivia, and perhaps the two reunions. I know I'm asking for too much, but they've done this with other shows, and I'd love to see the episodes from seasons 2-8 in their entirety (they cut around 10 minutes out of each episode when it airs on TV to meet air time, and space for commercials). They did such a great job restoring the first season, so I'd love to see the rest of the episodes looking so great!

I think TV-on-DVD has become even more popular since L&S first came out. Right now, Season 1 isn't highly-visible in any store since it was released such a long time ago. I think if they released Season 2 and had it on the shelf at Target and Best Buy, it would sell better than Season 1. But, for the record, when I went to get my copy at Best Buy the day it was released, they were almost sold out. They had just 1 copy left. Maybe it didn't sell that well all over the country.

I was watching The Halloween episode this week and it reminded me just how much better the show got in Season 2. I hope we are surprised with an announcement soon. Paramount really needs to see the show's potential.

well, there are a LOT of differences between the first season releases of MTM and L&S...

MTM was originally released on September 24, 2002 - practically the STONE AGE in terms of TV shows on dvd, if i remember correctly it originally retailed for something ridiculous like $70 - mainly because of all the special features on it. It sat on the shelves for YEARS, up until they dropped the price substantially. Apparently all the subsequent seasons have done very well in terms of sales, they seem to be releasing them on a pretty regular basis now.

L&S came out on August 17, 2004, just as TV-DVDs were starting to pick up steam in sales, it too was a bit overpriced initially, but it still hasn't come down as low as MTM S1. It has NO special features at all, but it is a nice little set anyways, there just might not be as many fans actually BUYING this set.
