The network evening news shows have become stale. The only time I watch them is when I want to play the medication commercial drinking game (take two shots when you're not quite sure what type of medication they're advertising, take one shot when they rattle off the side effects; etc).

But I'll be watching Katie Couric's first show, if only to satisfy a certain sense of curiosity I have.

I definitely plan on tuning in to catch Katie's first evening hosting the CBS Evening News...

I'll watch, but unless I'm just blown away, I'll go back to NBC the next night.

I was around when it happened, but hadn't turned 5 yet... but I've seen the stupid video of Cronkite only about 1,000 times since then.

Walter didn't do ANYTHING to get the country through the JFK assassination... he just happened to be in the studio at the time the reports came over, and he read them... and libs give him so much credit for 'getting the country through that terrible time'...

The United States of America didn't need Walter Cronkite to get us through anything...this was already the greatest country in the world, by far, way before Walter came along.

As someone who watched JFK pass away, I can say that Cronkite was a trusted face in an age when tv was still pretty young to most of us

he was someone you knew, back in a time when u turned on the news and went to the network that had the anchor u trusted most----
when cronkite announced that Jfk was gone, his pain was obvious and it was a feeling that most all of america shared---- republican or democrat, liberal or conservative

That's okay. You're right about Cronkite though. He's as biased and liberal as they come. As recently as 2004, he stated, on Larry King, that Karl Rove was behind the release of the Bin Laden tape (to influence the Presidential election). So the outcry that Cronkite is just an elderly old man is BS. If he's going to sling it, he can expect to get it back. Why is he off limits, because of his age?

First days on the job are nerve-racking for everyone, even famous people. She'll get her footing. It might take a couple of weeks.

Nothing if it's a Happy Story but you can have a plesant demeanor if you are taklking about Major News. That's why I think she is not anchor material because I don't know if she is able to make that transition from Happy to Serious

I'm not sure...she really didn't do much of anything, just read the intros to some stories (she read them pretty well though, I think she only had one flub), and interviewed Friedman...

She seemed comfortable enough for a first night on the job (this job, anyway).

Interesting the way the reporter in the Afghanistan story refered to our President as "Mr. Bush"... Think they would have called Bill "Mr. Clinton"? No way, he was always "The President" or "President Clinton"...

The reporter later referred to him as "The President", but still, he introduced the story by referring to him as "Mr. Bush". Subtle liberal bias there, showing a lack of respect for the person now occupying the office.

I know who was on Hannity and Colmes tonight, but there have been instances where it's just been a labeled conservative commentator on solo. I personally didn't see any harsh attacks from Friedman just criticism of the war and his thoughts. And yes this thread is about Katie, but you're the one who brought up all the additional criticism about CBS News so I felt the need to defend the broadcast.

I didn't like the format. I was bored by 10 minutes in and will be back to NBC tonight, but will check her out at times. I just didn't like all the fluff.

Well it is when you consider the money they are paying her. They thought she'd save CBS News and it's not looking like she will. The show sucks... there's very little hard news.

Is she making more or less than Rather? If it's less than they are no worse off. I agree though the night I did watch, there was very little hard news. I think that may change, but I still won't watch. I didnt watch Rather and I dont watch Katie or Gibson or Williams for that matter.

Maybe they can sign her to save My Network Tv! :)

I know it isn't right to critique an anchor's clothing, but did anybody see the blouse she was wearing today? She looked like she could walk on the set of Little House on the Prairie and nobody would notice.

I saw a glimpse of the CBS Evening News today and I thought she did well. :)

I thought she did well - it was the rest of the show around her that REALLY bothered me. I stuck out a few minutes of "30 Minutes", then flipped over to ABC.

Did anyone catch the beginning tonight? The show opens like this "You are looking at one dangerous man"(referring to the top 10 fugitive). The problem... the camera shot was on her! I burst out laughing.

Well, Katie got CBS out of the celler for a couple of days anyway... guess that's more than Rather ever did for them.

Tecnically Rathers last broadcast was #1.

Well I expected CBS News to have a powerful first night.

who cares - watching paint dry would be more interesting....


Or maybe if they were to PhotoShop her DURING the broadcast (like they did in that magazine photo) - that might get my attention - she's fat - she's thin - she's tall - she's short.....

Kinda like a Katie Mr. Potato Head that you could interactively mess around with.....
