I got a used tape from the President of the GI fan club that has some real rare stuff but the quality of the tape is not that good at all. There is a huge line that takes up the bottom of the screen. I would like to convert the stuff, but I don't want the huge line on it. Anyway of stopping it?

Once you convert it to DVD, you could extract it to an MPEG2 file, then use TMPGenc to crop the bottom of the screen. I've done it before, sometimes looks great, sometimes looks just ok.

try using different VCRs to transfer it
some (especially older models) have easier to adjust tracking controls that might be able to lessen it

I would have to crop a lot, I will post a pic when I get off of work tonight

I only have one VCR-lol

I had one from the 80's but it stopped working on me a few months back. It was the kind where it pops up at the top and you put the tape there. It was neat. I still have it, but it eats every tape that goes in it.

hi gf, i have 2 vcr/dvd recorders and a dual deck vcr. if you would like for me to see what i could do with the tape, just let me know. would see about transferring it without or a reduction in the tracking line for a copy of what is on the tape. just let me know with either a pm or an email. thanks stoogedog

this is how bad it is.

I don't think anything can save it

after converting it today I have come to the conclusion that it started out bad and got worse as they made me a copy. It is disappointing too because it shakes so much it makes me sea sick. I made a copy for someone here, but I will definitely be taking it off my have list after this one.

Unless the control track is degraded from age or overuse (I have 3 tapes that are useless because of this) try using different VCR's. Some work better then others. I have one that cleans up nearly all of my tracking issues on just about any tape.
