Brian De Palma's film version of James Ellroy's novel The Black Dahlia, concerning the death of actress Elizabeth Short in 1947, is opening next month on the 15th. Who is planing on going to see it?

I plan to see this one on the day it comes out. As a huge fan of the films of Brian De Palma and also as someone who enjoyed the Ellroy novel, I have been long awaiting this film and I can't wait to see it.

Actually, Hollywoodland does look similar in a way. Haven't seen it yet, either, but it definitely caught my eye!

I might rent it on DVD, since Rose McGowan is in it.

I don't think I've ever seen any movies that she has been in. I wasn't familar with the name so I went to imdb and looked the name up. The only thing I would have seen that she was in was two GP episodes. I don't happen to remember those appearances off the top of my head.

Wow. She's become a bigger name, especially after winning her Oscars. Million Dollar Baby is now probably her most known film, which I would highly recommend. Boys Don't Cry is also amazing, but I couldn't openly recommend it, because it is VERY depressing. It's definitely not for everyone. Insomnia, Iron Jawed Angels, and 11:14 are some other good ones.

I heard that this movie was a disappointment for many. Did any of you actually get to see it yet? What did you think?

I saw it the weekend it opened. Though I would not put in on the same level as Carrie, Dressed To Kill, Blow Out, Scarface, The Untoucables and Carlito's Way, I still thought it was a good movie overall. The only thing I really didn't like too much about it was some of the cast. I thought Hilary Swank was awful...totally miscasted.

Just how grisly is the movie? I wanna watch it, but that's pretty holds me back from doing so. I hate grisly movies, and I know that in real life, Elizabeth Short was murdered in an extremely horrible fashion.

I'm not sure how grisly the movie is. Compared to other De Palma films like Dressed To Kill, Scarface and Body Double, it is actually quite tame. Though there are a couple of pretty violent scenes. There is a really disturbing scene near the end. I guess it all depends on your tolerance to violence. It is a very disturbing movie though.

LOL, I'm curious about what happens in the disturbing scene near the end. Do you think you can put it in spoiler code for me, please?

I can't really say what happens without breaking the PG-13 rating of this board, but let's just say that you get a very vivid look at what happened to Elizabeth. It was kind of like looking at an autopsy photo...a graphic one.
