I think in the ep where Wally has lied to Kitty Banyon and Wally has to meet her in Mayfield, Ward and June go a little too far. They insist he go to a dance he doesn't want to go to. Then he makes up a fake basketball practice and find out from Eddie (who Ward believes without question) and then insist that Wally write to Kitty and June calls her mother. Then they find the unsent letter in Wally's trash. When Wally says "i didn't think you'd see that" Ward says "well, that doesn't matter now"

I mean, I think it's true to the early 60's that parents were the ultimate authority and that it was quite possible this scenario could have taken place, it just seems like June and Ward were a bit too involved in something that really should have only involved Wally.

I definitely agree. It showed how nosy June was, going through Wally's trash can to find the letter and later Ward insisting that Wally take Kitty Bannerman to the dance.

It's rather surprising that Wally and Beaver never learned that if they have anything in writing they don't want June to find, they need to tear it to pieces and dispose of it somewhere besides their wastebasket :lol: .

Besides, if they are so concerned about Wally "facing the music" about misrepresenting himself, did they really think the thing to do was to force Wally to go to a dance where-- for all they knew-- he might be mocked and jeered and thrown out for telling the truth (also their demand)? Why did they not insist that he call her and tell the truth before a possible faux pas of springing it on her when he comes to pick her up?

I don't really like June, in general...I like Ward--he did make some mistakes with his kids, but at least he disciplined them, which June never did. (And it wasn't just because this was the 50s/60s--a lot of times Ward would ask her "Why didn't you handle this?" and she would say, "I thought you could handle it better, Ward.") It also always annoyed me how June acted around Eddie, who was a wise guy, but overall a nice kid, and who was always polite around her.

Anyway, back on topic: I agree, June and Ward were too rough on Wally in that episode--it should have been Wally's decision.

She probably would have found it if they threw it away somewhere else, that's how nosy she was!

I saw this episode recently...

First of all, you guys are missing the point before June found the note.

Wally couldn't tell Ward about what he had written to Kitty that he had made him look better than he really was.

I don't know if parents are that nosy though in that time but I think they always are.

But, I think maybe Ward should have just let things go and just see what Wally does.
