I'm debating on basketballboards.net about Patrick Ewing with the Knicks. Everyone seems to be think that Ewing had sucky teammates but I disagree and feel that his teammates were very good. Mark Jackson, Charles Oakley, Charles Smith, Xavier McDaniel, Allan Houston, Charlie Ward, Chris Childs, Latrell Sprewell, Marcus Camby, and John Starks were all good players. Do you all think that Ewing was winning 45-50 games a year by himself or are his teammates that good like I said?

The year they played the Rockets in the championship they had a really good team! Ewing couldn't do anything against Olajuwan and they still made it to the 7th game of that series.

They made it to game 7 because Starks was making Vernon Maxwell look like an idiot for the first 6 games. Too bad he went 2-18 in game 7. I always felt Ewing had good teammates. Ewing was nothing compared to Olajuwon.

Ewings problem was that he went from being a low post force to a low post jump shooter. Dream could do both. You forgot Anthony Mason on your list. He was a great fit on those teams. And wasn't Rol Blackmon on there at the end of his career? The Knicks problem when Ewing was in his prime was number 23 on that Chicago team.....can't remember his name though....;)

Jordan could have won without Pippen. Olajuwan did it in 95. He had only role players around him them. In 96 is when he had Drexler.

And speaking of Pippen does anyone here think that he should be in the top 50 Basketball players of all time? I sure don't. Like you said, he was Jordans Pippen and when Jordan was gone he wasn't all that. He sucked in Houston when they tried to give him the leadership of that team. He fit in in Portland because he was a role player again. And role players aren't part of the top 50.

Ewing had some really hard working guys, they just ran into a team that was better, the bulls.

Also, they were missing that "other" superstar like the bulls had in pippen.


But in 94, I really thought the knicks had a good chance to beat Houston, but they up short and John Starks terrible shooting didnt help either.

Starks damn near ended the series in game 6. He was shooting lights out and got off a 3 pointer at the end but Dream was able to get a fingernail on it to change the shot.

Yes I think Patrick Ewing was a good player with a good supporting cast. He had great sidekicks like you guys already named. But I think they gave up on him b/c when they picked him in 85' they expected too much out of him. they expected him 2 win a championship like magic in 80' you know him starting as center and the rest is history, philly never had a chance. I think they expected him to put on magic like magic did

DJ those players you mentioned that Patrick played with were good supporting players. I read recently that Patrick quit his assistant coach job with the Houston Rockets so he could spend more time with his kids. Patrick should've retired a Knick. He should've never demanded a trade. When he went to Seattle and Orlando, he did nothing LOL.
