We use to have an early out before Martin Luther King day but we don't anymore. The same goes for Presidents day. Mr. Television 08-24-2006, 11:05 AM The only early dismissal days we ever had was at Christmas break and on the last day of school. Any other early dismissals weren't planned. We would get out early sometimes because of the heat-we had no a/c or if it started snowing. Kazza 08-24-2006, 12:30 PM The only early dismissal days my dd's get is Election day and last day of school. In case of inclement weather they do too but is not very often. EmoJoe 08-24-2006, 12:38 PM that's a LOT. we get 4 in November (Confrences and Thanksgiving), 1 in December (Chrismas Break), 3 in March (Confrences), and 3 in June (End of School). sometimes we get off early for snow though PZelda 08-24-2006, 12:49 PM I don't think I ever had a lot of early dismissal days... I know I got one or two in October for the annual NDEA (North Dakota Educators' Association) conference, and maybe P/T conferences. One in November, before Thanksgiving. One in December, before Xmas break. And I would get one more sometime in the spring for another P/T conference. And I think that was about it. Oh, and we only got two allotted storm days during the year. Thirteen early dismissal days is a bit too much, I agree. Ireneparalegal 08-24-2006, 01:32 PM Does she attend private school Jen? MsOrange 08-24-2006, 02:49 PM The only early dismissal days we ever had was at Christmas break and on the last day of school. Any other early dismissals weren't planned. Only last day of school (sometimes I think it was the last 2 days of school) and last day before Christmas break. I miss kindergarten, where everyday was a half day :( Jonathan 08-24-2006, 03:00 PM I never get early dismissals, only full days off. Parakeet03 08-24-2006, 04:02 PM That's so many! I only get 1 early dismissal per year. :( PZelda 08-24-2006, 04:38 PM No, she goes to public school. She's in a different school district then my brother and I were when we were in school. After looking at her school calendar I see that she gets more days off and more early dismissals than I did. I just was surprised because I never paid that much attention to how much time she has gotten off in the past. In addition to the early dismissals she gets 1 day off in September 1 day off in October 5 days off in November December 15-31st off 3 days in January 1 day in February 5 days in March 2 days in April She started on August 14 Her last day of school is May 24 On early dismissal days she gets out 2 & 1/2 hours early. Her school district calendar indicates that the school year calendar adds up to 180 days. That's how long a school year is supposed to be- 180 days. In the public schools district here this year, it's 173 days, and I'm scratching my head. I thought it was a REQUIREMENT for a school year to be 180 days... Hmmm... Anyway. Schools here just started today, and the kiddies in the next town over start on Monday (the 28th), BUT they get out at the same time as your sister, on the 24th. Mr. Television 08-24-2006, 04:56 PM It's supposed to be 180 days, but with all the days off & the early dismissals I'm not sure that actually adds up to 180. It seems like when I went to school we got less time off. We got out later (last day or 2 in May, sometimes even the first week in June). We started earlier (first week, sometimes second week of August). I remember when I was in 10th grade (1995-1996) we started on Aug. 11th & we didn't get out until June 3rd. Maybe the number of school days that are required have decreased in the last 10 years. Oh well. We always started school around August 27th or 28th and got out around June 12th. That's pretty much the way it was year after year. theshark8777 08-24-2006, 05:14 PM We never got early dismissals either, they started that not too long after I graduated. Actually I do think we got one when our basketball team made it to regionals, we got out early so we could go to the game. I dont get the point tho. Hollow 08-24-2006, 06:34 PM we get one early dismissal a month because of staff meetings. out of almost 200 full days in a school year, having about 15 half days really isn't much. Geez Kazza, that school means business! They don't even get out early the day before Thanksgiving or Good Friday or the first day of school? stevedqfan 09-01-2006, 05:06 PM My school district has five half day. one is the day before thanksgiving. The other days are for final exams. my school district has four late starts when they start two hours late but get out at the regular time |
