View Full Version : Do you think Janet Dubios looked like Janet Jackson's REAL LIFE MOTHER?
TVFactFan 08-22-2006, 07:42 PM I was reading a Nov-10-16, 1977 Jet Magazine Today and Janet was saying that when she was in public people would ask her "IS THAT YOUR REAL DAUGHTER?-lol They looked nothing alike to me so I'm surprised someone asked that dumb ass queston. Also they were thinking about SPININING THE williona character and penny off onto their own show if they had a succesful 1977-78 TV Season. Who the hell was going to watch-"Willona and Penny" on CBS after Good Times?_LOL

You are just saying that because it was never CREATED-lol

Good answer. It's easy to say one would watch a show...well, then, maybe, maybe one would watch it...but it could be so bad (which I know it would) that it would get cancelled.

I would watch it, no doubt.
TVFactFan 08-22-2006, 08:04 PM The producers thought the addition of Janet would lead to ratings success-lol That's a JOKE

Good Times was not the only sitcom that thought adding a child would equal ratings. Diff'rent Strokes, Family Ties, Growing Pains, The Cosby Show...etc, etc.

You have to remember though Solomon, they weren't that smart. Look at the bad writing and the topics that were thrown at us in the later seasons.

The Executive producer, Austin Kalish, felt that since they were the first sitcom to ever deal with single parent adoption, they felt like they were going to have a hit season. Boy were they wrong-lol

It started off ok, just some of the other stupid storylines like JJ dreaming about being white and Fishbone killed it.

I would've watch it, I wasn't born then but still.
TVFactFan 08-23-2006, 12:02 AM Janet Dubios should have been WRITTEN OUT THE SCRIPT once John and Esther left the show because she was no longer needed. Should have been just J.J, Thelma, and Michael and Bookman,

I totally disagree, I enjoyed the Penny and Willona episodes

I would rather watch a spinoff called-"THE BOOKMANS" and see the personal life of Bookman and his wife

As you have seen, it hadn't worked for either shows.. Growing Pains ALWAYS sucked, Good Times fell off when James died, Diff'rent Strokes got old real fast, Family Ties fell off when Micheal J. Fox became the movie star, Cosby..well adding Raven Symone and that bore father of hers was a HUGE mistake. Bill owes me big for taking up my time with that mess.

I agree with you on this. They look NOTHING alike. Their facial features are TOTALLY different. Janet Jackson looks like ALL of her siblings and nothing like Janet Dubois. That was a dumb question. They only played mother and daughter on the show and Penny was adopted, she wasn't even Wilona's biological child.

I probably would have watched the first 2 episodes. But if after the first 2 episodes it didn't hold my attention, then I wouldn't watch it again. I give all new shows a chance, but I can usually tell early in the show if it's going to be one of my "regulars" or not.

I disagree also. Wilona brought a sassiness to the show that the others couldn't. And I enjoyed the Wilona and Penny episodes....not all of them, but most of them.

Brian Damage 08-23-2006, 07:15 PM Willona was still needed after John and Esther left. It wouldn't make sense that she would move out of the blue.

Willona should have had a decreased role because the evans kids were GROWN.. She must have BEGGED To stay on the show-lol

Oh s**t, let's not even get started on that Cosby mess...what a pile of crap that whole Olivia thing started. You and I seem to agree a lot on this show and it's negative stuff.
Brian Damage 08-23-2006, 07:22 PM Willona should have had a decreased role because the evans kids were GROWN.. She must have BEGGED To stay on the show-lol
I disagree, the three kids weren't strong enough to carry a show.

If they had let Willona go, the show would not have been the same. I know I would have watched it, but it would be awful without her. And I seriously doubt she begged to stay or have her role grow larger. She was a major part of the show...she could get away with not being in some episodes, but still, you can feel the void of her not being there at times.

The fact that she had a SMALL role when James and Florida was on the show, i saw no reason for it to expand. She should have had a even smaller role
Ireneparalegal 08-23-2006, 07:37 PM YOU saw no reason for her to expand...but she was, and therefore, the audience loved her even more.

The difference is, she could carry a show.

I agree. I think I would have stopped watching if Wilona had left the show. She was funny and a good mix with the Evans clan.

I just liked seeing Wilona be a mom. It was just funny to see her react to some of the things Penny did and said. When she and Florida had a falling out about not telling Penny about sex, I felt that on a personal level. My aunt and my mother had a falling out about that very same thing....not telling me and my sisters about sex because she wasn't ready for us to grow up..LOL

Her being a mom was a sure contrast to her being a single lady. It was fun watching her be single in the episode when she took out Flo to that club. "Rapping tapping and finger-snapping"...
Her fighting with Penny's natural mother was Willona at her best as a mom.

Yes, I really enjoyed the episode where Penny's mom threw the outrageous party at Wilona's apartment.
TVFactFan 08-24-2006, 05:24 PM Well it must be because yall are females because I know most men hated those eps. So maybe that's what it is
