The fact that Fred had such high confidence and was so proud of himself and lived in such a dirty junky house and had no money-lol Fred walked around like a man who was successful in life but had NOTHING and lived in the Poor section of Watts. So that's why it is so Funny watching Fred walk around with so much confidence-LOL Fred had so many reasons to feel DOWN but never once did you see him depressed about not HAVING ANYTHING-lol

Even this statement to Lamont would make you think he was rolling in the Dough
"That's your trouble Lamont, you look at the poor side, the losing side, the unpleasant side. How did that happened to you? Where did you go wrong?

I think the main reason S&S was (and IS!) so funny is because it is so un-PC. You couldn't get away airing those Norman Lear shows nowadays. That's why the DVDs are such a treasure.

So true! Much of the humor was very topical and current to the 70's, but so much was/is truly timeless. Not to mention the great timing of a great comedian, Redd Foxx.
