Does anyone know if the recent PBS doc. on Gleason is or will be released on DVD. I see it from time to time on e-bay, but I think it's a copy recorded off TV.

I haven't seen it at MPI's website, though I would bet that once PBS's window of time for running the show runs out, it would probably be available through retail. Craig Horwich, Marilyn Taylor's son, appeared in NY during WNET's airing of the show and said that the DVD has footage from the Gleason Show when he was promoting the And Away we Go album, with performances of some of the songs from it. Benno123 08-19-2006, 10:44 PM I wonder if these performances are from the same date as the "What's Her Name?" remake where Ralph and Alice sing "One of These Days?" I agree that the DVD will become available sometime soon, hopefully in time for the holiday season. It's also possible that it will be held back for release until maybe some of the original Gleason shows start appearing on DVD? I always believed that the color Honeymooners would be available and after years of saying so they finally are starting to come out officially. I believe that the original 50s Gleason shows will, too. It's just too bad that you have to pledge something like $100 or more to get the DVD. It was a great special, but not for $100 or more! |
