I'm not trying to be smart or anything but when did you all of a sudden become a jeffersons fan? I never see you here before
Lamont 08-15-2006, 02:24 PM i collect many old shows
and im trying to be more active in other parts of the boards now
and trying to become a little less disagreeable
it has been brought to my attention by others that I have too often focused on the bad and not the good--- focusing on things i disagree with on things, instead of what i enjoy--- so im trying to take a step back and remember WHY i started trading to start with--- and that was because i love tv
and love tv shows
today for instance, i purchased
jerffersons season 5
hogans heroes ssn 4
surface the complete series
remington steele season 4 and 5
i collect MAINLY 70s shows for my own fun, and PREFER the black sitcoms of the 70s--- sanford, good times, whats happening, thats my mama, etc
HOWEVER i am also a fan of some 50s shows such as the less common, OUR MISS BROOKS, MY LITTLE MARGIE, I MARRIED JOAN, HONEYMOONERS, BURNS AND ALLEN etc
now the jeffersons in particular---- i LOVED the show for the first few years to be honest
i think Helmsley has such comic timing and the show was really fun, of course in later years --- much like All In The Family (when it became Archie Bunkers Place) they watered it down too much and it became somewhat predictable
BUT the first 3-4 years were hilarious
it seems that most of the shows i liked in the 70s--- good times, happy days, jeffersons, all in the family, Laverne and Shirley--- ALL of them seemed to peter out toward the end and end pretty weakly

I was a little annoyed by the ONE edited ep out of the 24 eps but that's not too bad but it still makes me wonder why that one ep on the season 5 DVD couldn;t be UNCUT
vashti1999 08-15-2006, 09:20 PM I picked up my copy on my way home from work, so now it's part of the collection. When I'll get around to watching it, I don't know.

Well that was my plan but Tower Records said it was a delay in the store receiving the DVD. I left out of there so PISSED off. Now I will have to order it online

Tower is your only option to buy it in a store?
TVFactFan 08-15-2006, 09:50 PM Tower is your only option to buy it in a store?
No i will try and go to FYE in the mall which is 2 blocks away from my job. See Tower Records is in the same direction of my apt when going home, FYE is in the opposite direction. So before I order online I wll try FYE
FrankCostanza 08-16-2006, 02:14 AM I ended up having to order mine off of Amazon after all. The only season I ever bought in a store was Season 3 about three weeks after it was released. It was before I visited TVShowsOnDVD frequently and I just forgot it had been released. I called up all the stores around here and K-Mart of all places had it. I was shocked to learn that they did.
selena2078 08-16-2006, 02:45 AM yep i had to search for it myself around here. had to drive bout 30 miles to get it but its here n playing in my dvd player now. now hoping season 6 comes in a reasonable time frame. :) :happyface
Lamont 08-16-2006, 08:23 AM  WHAT I HATE is when u see a new season of a set come out
u pay full price
and 2 months later its marked down to 14.99 or something!!!!
TVJunkie101 08-16-2006, 08:52 AM That's why I typically wait to buy a show. I'd love to run out and buy it the first day it comes out, but I just end up waiting. I'm a HUGE Jeffersons/All In The Family/Good Times, etc. fan and I still only have S1 of The Jeffersons and only the first 2 of Good Times, lol. And if I really love the show and want it badly, I pre-order it because it's usually much cheaper than the standard release price.
I almost never buy sets in stores anymore. I usually just order off of Amazon.com. I don't pay for shipping and handling, and they offer good deals a lot of the time. I just now bought Gimme a Break - Season 1 (for $20). And I pre-ordered Mama's Family, which is only $18 bucks on Amazon, which is a huge markdown of price.
A lot of times I also just buy used sets for an incredibly cheap price from the Amazon Marketplace. Sure it's risky buying from common sellers, but meh, I've yet to have a problem.
TVFactFan 08-16-2006, 12:29 PM Ok I going to the Store now and buy this DVD. The guy just told me on the phone that they have ONE LEFT and if I get there and that one is gone, I will go crazy inside the mall and may be on the local news. FINGERS CROSSED
I ordered it from Amazon when I couldn't find Good Times Season 6 in the store. I thought about how I always had to drive out to Sam's Club to buy it (about 25 miles away), and I opted to buy both sets from Amazon. When I did buy them at Sam's, they were always $17.99 each. However, Sam's will only carry the title for the first week only, then it disappears. By the time I drive out there, I'll be spending more than the $3 difference in gas anyway.
vashti1999 08-16-2006, 01:04 PM That's just one reason why I love living in NYC, and working in Manhattan in particular: you'll alwas have options. You'll end up finding it somewhere.
TVFactFan 08-16-2006, 01:24 PM GOT IT!! I went to the store and at first I didn;t see it on the self. So I looked for one of the workers and said-"I was told it was one Jeffersons DVD left on the phone 20 min ago and I know it can;t be gone that fast". So the worker says-"I think it was sold" and then i was like-"That's bullsh*T" I just got off the phone with the guy 20 min ago. So I said-"Who was the guy who answered the phone? The worker said WHY? I said because i need to talk to him face to face" So the guy was contacted on his self in the back on his cell phone and the worker said-"I have this guy here who is looking for a Jeffersons DVD season 5" And the guy told him that he saved it for me and it's behind the counter" I was like-"THANK GOD-lol I knew it couldn't have been sold that fast because i went straight to that store when the guy said he had ONE LEFT. Glad that's over
I just got mine, too. I got an e-mail Monday stating that the order has shipped from amazon, and I should expect it by August 28th (that seemed crazy to me), but I just received it in the mail.

Yeah, EVERYTHING is in New York.
I want ALL the seasons of The Jeffersons. I just can't stand the ones with that darn Lionel replacement.

Well that means you won;t be getting seasons 2,3, and 4-lol

I pre-ordered the set so I didn't know the expected date of delivery until it shipped. But it came in two days, so I am happy. Living in Atlanta, it usually doesn't take long for anything to arrive. Besides, I'm not in a hurry to rip it open and watch. I have some Netflix titles ahead of this and Good Times.
However, I do want to continue to purchase these sets on the first day (or week) to ensure that they continue to be released. It also seems that with everyone having to jump through hurdles to find the sets, they have limited the releases to some degree. That may be good for the series, because if they release a smaller number- they'll sell better and warrant the release of subsequent sets.

I just couldn't understand why there was only ONE Jeffersons DVD when they release date was yesterday. I expected 8or 9 copies

No, I'll still watch it because I love The Jeffersons so much. I just prefer the original Lionel (Mike Evans) to that other replacement dude.
FrankCostanza 08-18-2006, 05:26 PM My Season 5 DVD arrived today. Amazon is fast! They said the estimated delivery date would be Tuesday but somehow it got here today. I wound up in Knoxville yesterday and their Best Buy had several copies of Season 5. Since I am moving to Knoxville next week (I will be attending the University of Tennessee) I now do not ever have to order the DVDs off of the internet anymore because I have finally found a store that carry this show on its first day of release. Even if that fails somehow there is still always the hasty Amazon!

It came through UPS right?
FrankCostanza 08-18-2006, 05:39 PM It came through UPS right?Actually it did not. It came in a white van that drove right up our driveway and the guy just knocked on the door, left the box on the bench outside, and drove away.

Are you talking about the USPS Truck?
FrankCostanza 08-18-2006, 05:43 PM Are you talking about the USPS Truck? No. I do not think it was a USPS truck either. Maybe the mail is handled differently in different parts of the country.
