Can someone tell me about how these two characters got along during their time on MTM? Just asking because I feel that Phyllis purposely didn't pick Rhoda up on her Wedding Day. I don't think she forgot at all

I can't really remember Rhoda's wedding too well (been a long time since I've seen that show) but you're right! I don't think it was wise for her to rely on Phyllis.

She did it because Phyllis wanted to be a bridsemaid, but since Rhoda wasn't having any, she offered to let Phyllis pick her up. And I really don't think Phyllis forgot on purpose, she prob. just had 10,000 other things on her mind at the time and forgot. In hindsight, though, I'm sure Rhoda wishes she'd thought it through a little more. hehe

Well, not really. They didn't care much for each other, but they didn't hate each other (that's more like Ellen and Eunice from "Mama's Family" and "The Carol Burnett Show", lol---still not 100% hate, but worse than Rhoda and Phyllis).

Rhoda seemed to be more open to civility or friendliness than Phyllis, because Phyllis was snooty about Rhoda and constantly berating her---it seems like Phyllis was the one to "start" things more with Rhoda. But in some cases, like the beauty pageant episode, Phyllis actually makes herself more vulnerable to Rhoda by telling her how beautiful she looks and supporting her pageant. So sometimes there are sweet moments like that, but overall it was a mutual "she drives me crazy" kinda thing, lol.

No, it's not on TV anywhere in the States. But we've got 4 seasons on DVD now, so you could always buy one if you want to see the show.

OK, well, semantics; I just remember 'dumb awful Rhoda' and the constant put-downs. Rhoda was a straight shooter, whereas Phyllis was a (funny) phony most of the time, that I think was the cause of their problems.

I don't think Rhoda and Phyllis hated each other,I think they both liked a bit of verbal sparring.
Phyllis was a bit of a snob towards Rhoda, she thought she was "earthy"like Lou Grant, when Mary played tennis with Joanne in season 2,she thought she was a more "suitable" friend for Mary than Rhoda.
Her constant put downs to Rhoda, ended up with Rhoda, making jibs back to Phyllis, usually about Lars waking his leg up!
As Valerie Harper said,Mary was who people wanted to me,Rhoda was who people really were like and Phyllis was who you didn't want to end up to be!
At Rhoda's wedding,Phyllis simply forgot to pick Rhoda up,the whole thing about Phyllis was she thought the whole world revolved around her and on Rhoda's wedding day,she was more worried about her own outfit and forgot to pick her up!
