He terrorized the Wichita, KS community in a killing spree that began over 30 years ago. After taunting investigators through the press, the BTK Killer dropped out of sight. But in early 2004, his own ego tripped him up. Now we know that the BTK Killer is Dennis Rader, a regular churchgoer and member of that same community he terrorized for decades. In an unprecedented courtroom confession, the infamous serial killer described 10 of his murders in dispassionate detail. But who is the man behind the BTK Killer, and what made him do it? Through interviews with investigators and experts, people who knew Rader and his victims, and through the words of Rader himself, this special will reveal insights into what drove Rader to become a killer, and how he evaded capture for so many years. Bill Kurtis hosts."

Watched the BTK Killer speaks.....what got me is that he came accross as remorseless when describing his 'projects'. He described strangling a girl abd torturing her like it was taking out the trash.

Also, growing up, he had no signs of sexual abuse or otherwise in his family. His own brother even said there was no abuse in the family. Rader himself said something like he just needed sexual gratification, he had no particular hatred for any of his victims. Rader was apparently in it for the thrill.

And, to think he was a leading member of his church in Park City, KS and lead the Boy Scouts as well. It's beyond me what possessed him to commit such atrocious acts. Great documentary, though. Very intriguing. He compared his crimes and life to being a 'secret agent' in a world where he performed his day jobs and 'social obligations' as Dennis Rader, then turned into BTK in his off time.

He called his killings, "PROJECTS."

He started a little late for a serial killer, in 1974. He was 28 or 29.

As an aquaintence of mine once said about people like Rader, "It's funny what people would hide behind all their lives, never revealing their real intentions."

Did anyone else notice that, during Rader's sentencing when the vicitims' families made their statements, Dennis Rader removed his glasses so he didn't have to look at them??? I was just absolutely livid watching him in the courtroom. SCUM OF THE EARTH!! He's not sorry one bit for what he did. He's just sorry that he got caught. People call him a monster, but that just dismisses the fact that he IS a human being and still did these horrific things and *enjoyed* it.

He described his 'projects' as though he was just taking out the trash....what arrogance!!

I too think he enjoyed the brief limelight he found in the courtroom.

Now he's rotting away in a cell somewhere.
