Why did Three's Company stop production at season eight? Was it because of the spin off Three's A Crowd? Did the rest of the cast not want to continue on? Was it ratings? Kevin.

View Full Version : Why Did TC stop at eight seasons? KEVIN1782 08-09-2006, 12:29 PM Why did Three's Company stop production at season eight? Was it because of the spin off Three's A Crowd? Did the rest of the cast not want to continue on? Was it ratings? Kevin. Poke1313 08-09-2006, 03:06 PM I'd say it's because it was time. No series can go forever. I think the ratings were goin' down some, weren't they? They had already recycled some episodes, like tryin' to keep the kitten/puppy from the landlord. They also had a lot of behind the scenes things happen with Chrissy leavin' and replacin' her with Cindy. That alone could severely hurt a sitcom. Remember the cast change on The Dukes of Hazzard. That series continued, but the fans weren't happy at all. When Tom and John were brought back, it helped, but many fans had left for good. Then, on Three's Company, they got rid of Cindy and brought in Teri. It's hard for a series to get away with all that. There was the whole thing with Launa bein' on for a season and then off. The Ropers were gone pretty early on, too, and they were a big hit. Even Seinfeld wanted to stop things early, before people grew tired of them. Didn't the Three's a Crowd idea come about once the producers knew they might be gettin' towards the end of the show? It's not like they stopped Threes' Company, just to do Three's a Crowd. Three's Company was gettin' to the end and they wanted to keep somethin' goin', so they had Three's a Crowd, right? Anyway, that's my breakdown. Chain Gang Member 08-09-2006, 03:55 PM I think Chrissy's Night Out was recycled into Macho Man since in both episodes,Jack hit a police officer without knowing that they guy was a cop and in the end wasn't booked because the officer didn't want people to know that Jack beat him up.My Sister's Keeper was recycled into Larry's Sister since they both were about Jack being accused of sleeping with his friend's sister. There are probably many more but that's all I can think of.Oh yeah,The Rivals was recycled into Dates Of Rath since they both were about Janet wanting a guy but the pretty blonde stole him without even knowing that she liked him gilligan fanatic 08-09-2006, 04:04 PM They were to old to have to share an apartment and miss the rent. It was silly seeing it in season 8 the same things as in sesason 1. You would think they could save a little money by that point. It needed to go. Adamantium 08-09-2006, 05:11 PM Richard Kline said that John Ritter wanted to end the show while it was still good. Which I guess is why the producers gave him his own spin-off. A way to end "Three's Company" still on top and give Jack Tripper a new show, so that classic sticom character could live on. Plus, like others have said, it was time. WalrusIsPaul 08-09-2006, 05:25 PM Theres an interview on the e story in that John Ritter says on the line of when they tried to hide a cat from furley it was the samething in the lines of hiding the puppy from roper. I guess he knew it was high time to end it.I mean really how much more can you do and i loved teh show, all time fav show KEVIN1782 08-10-2006, 12:32 PM It's definitely one of the classics. It is one of my all-time favourites. But, it's funny, though, how some older shows lived on for years and years. I think Father Knows Best, Make Room for Daddy and My Three Sons stayed on for many years. MRFD and MTS had cast changes and retained their fans. Even Cheers and Frasier stayed on the air for 11 years each. Ireneparalegal 08-10-2006, 04:12 PM It needed to end. Can three people really live together in the same apt. for 8 years? I know for Teri it wasn't that long, but Jack and Janet? gilligan fanatic 08-10-2006, 05:45 PM It needed to end. Can three people really live together in the same apt. for 8 years? I know for Teri it wasn't that long, but Jack and Janet? They shoud have moved into a house they rented from Bart Furley or something. Something bigger and more expensive than that little apartment. Will and Grace Fanatic 08-13-2006, 02:09 AM I think it may have been the ratings I beleive they slipped to number 30. Which isn't great for a show that was a top 10 hit at one time. |
