View Full Version : Names
Nighthawk76 08-08-2006, 07:13 PM Do anyone of you know what other names that your parents considered giving you before they decided on the name you were finally given? Like what would your name have been if you had been the opposite sex?
For a boy's name my parents always wanted Michael. For a girl's name they had decided on Jennifer if I had been a girl. Though they also considered Bridgett as a possible girl's name before finally deciding on Jennifer. My dad said that at first he was reluctant to go with Jennifer because he didn't like Jenny as a nickname.
Michael [hXc] 08-08-2006, 07:21 PM my parents didn't agree on names at all, so they had very different ideas of what to name me. my dad wanted to name me after him (joseph) or his father (carmine) and if i was a girl, he wanted to name me francesca. and he had a bunch of other Italian names in mind. my mom wanted to name me michael (my name), matthew, dylan, jason, or evan. and if i was a girl, she would have named me christina.
EmoJoe 08-08-2006, 07:22 PM i would've been named Jenna if i was a girl. i hate that name. so i'm glad i turned out to be a boy...:grr:
Sharop 08-08-2006, 07:36 PM If I'd been a boy, my parents would have named me Michael James. So I'd be Michael James Gibson. I sometimes wonder what I'd be like if I was a boy.
As it is, my name is Michelle (my full name being Stephanie Michelle Gibson.) But I've always been called Michelle. I like the name Stephanie, but my parents have never called me by my first name - they were always going to have me as Michelle, but they thought that "Stephanie Michelle" sounded better than "Michelle Stephanie", so they gave Michelle as my second name. I've always had to correct the teachers at school and tell them that I'm always called Michelle.
I Love John Ritter 08-08-2006, 08:12 PM As it is, my name is Michelle (my full name being Stephanie Michelle Gibson.)
You have a very pretty name :)
Janice 08-08-2006, 09:27 PM My name was almost Eileen, after my aunt/Godmother. I'm not crazy over that name. My parents decided to make Eileen my middle name instead. I was named Janice because I was born in January.
strawberry cupcake 08-08-2006, 09:31 PM if i'd been a boy i would have been named david after my father.
my dad wanted to name me dorothy jaquline alma :barf: but my mom hated it so they named me dorothy rae.
dawsongirl 08-08-2006, 09:50 PM I would have been Jeffrey Michael...which is Jeff Gordon's name, so that's pretty damn cool.
Chelsea 08-08-2006, 10:06 PM At one point over the last two decades, it got mentioned that had I been born a girl, my name would have been Elizabeth.
Beth. Go figure.
(As for how my name came about: As the World Turns. Imagine if mom'd been watching General Hospital instead)
I was very close to being Dwayne. My dad liked it but my mom was against it.
Ambear 08-08-2006, 10:21 PM As for my name, my mom wanted to name me Summer Rose, but my dad thought it was stupid. They wanted a name that nobody else in the family had so they named me Amber. As far as my middle names, my mom put in the name Michelle after her best friend. My dad put in Louise for his sister Wilma Louise (Who was dying from diabetes at the time). So, in the end it became Amber Michelle Louise.
Cactus Jack 08-08-2006, 10:24 PM . Ass far as my middle names,
Never heard of middle names that went as far as your ass ;)
*Pleasant Tomorrow* 08-08-2006, 10:28 PM Uhh, my mom told me she wanted to name me Jordan but I guess she settled with Ashlee. I don't know what my dad wanted.
Ambear 08-08-2006, 10:42 PM Never heard of middle names that went as far as your ass ;)
Oops!
Yooch 08-09-2006, 01:20 AM I don't know for sure, but I think if my parents had a girl it might've been Eugenia*, shortened to Gen or Jenny. As it turned out, my parents never had a girl, just four ornery boys! I don't know which, if any other boys names they were considering.
*I had a revered great uncle Eugenio, hence the name.
Holly 08-09-2006, 08:36 AM Ya they were gonna name me bridget ...then they decided to call me Holly... Marie!
Chocoholic 08-09-2006, 10:09 AM My father wanted Jamie (His name is James.) regardless of whether I was a boy or a girl. My mom didn't like the idea of having a daughter named Jamie. I wouldn't have minded being a Jamie. My mom also didn't like the idea of naming a child after a relative, like so many people in my dad's family. She wanted her kids to have their own names. They couldn't decide. They finally settled on Kristen while my mom was headed into the delivery room. I am actually named after one of the nurses who worked in the delivery room. I'm not lying!

Lol! So, if I had been a boy, I would have been Andrew. But, my parents didn't want to know if I were a boy or girl before I was born, so they decided to settle for a name that could go either way...they were watching an episode of MASH one night, and Max Klinger came on (played by JAMIE Farr), and they decided that since he could kinda play either gender, his name would work either way lol! So, I'm Jamie Lee (my dad's middle name) Marie (the 5th generation of Marie).....
It's just a coincidence (sp?) that I totally fell in love with MASH 12 years after my parents came up w/the name...I had the honor of meeting Jamie Farr, and told him the story, and he signed my autograp "To my namesake..." It was funny...
To come full circle, if I ever were to breed, if I had a boy, his name would be Maxwell Sebastian Alyxandar...a girl would be Sadie Abigail Marie.
LuLu Rogers 08-09-2006, 11:59 AM My parents thought that I was going to be a boy, so they had the name Jason Andrew picked out. When I was born, they had to think of a girl name quick. It just so happened that they were huge Young and the Restless fans at the time so I was named after two of the characters, Lauren Ashley.
Nighthawk76 08-09-2006, 03:14 PM I remember you mentioning a few times that you would have been named Jennifer. I'm not sure why, but I get a kick out of the fact that you would have been named Jennifer. :) I guess because that name is similar to mine. I think it's cool that your name would have been Jennifer if you would have been a girl. I wonder why your dad didn't like the nickname Jenny? What does he think of it as an actual name?
My dad thinks Jennifer is a nice name, but he doesn't like the name Jenny. And since Jenny is the common nickname for Jennifer that is why he had some doubts.

I like Jamie as a girl's name but not as a boy's name. It just doesn't sound right as a boy's name.
Courtnee 08-09-2006, 05:11 PM I was almost Amanda Nicole (my mom thought it sounded like a pornstar name...which it does), if I turned out to be a boy, I would have been Christopher (that's my younger bothers name since he's the boy and ****...yeah)
but they liked Courtnee :D
Sharop 08-09-2006, 05:12 PM I like Jamie as a girl's name but not as a boy's name. It just doesn't sound right as a boy's name.
In the UK, Jamie has always been a boy's name. It was only two or three years ago that I realised that it could be used for a girl. I think it's probably more a name given to girls in America.
I like it both for a boy and a girl, but I think I prefer it as a boy's name. It seems more natural to me, since I've always grown up with Jamie being a boy's name, and it wasn't until fairly recently that I learned that some people gave girls the name Jamie.

but they liked Courtnee :D
I think if I have a girl, I'm going to name her Adrienne Marie or maybe something two parted and southnern.
Number 9 Dream 08-09-2006, 07:43 PM Well, I'm not sure what the boys name would've been, but they were down to two girls names for me-- Kristel or Kimberly. My dad really liked Kristel (especially with that particular spelling, which was rare in the early 80's when I was born), hence the name was chosen.
I am glad they went with it :) It's unique and pretty at the same time.
swedeace 08-09-2006, 11:39 PM Not sure, but since my dad wanted to name my sister and me close to his name, I think I would have been named Ramon or Raymond. Those are my dad's variations in names.

LOL! I'm learning so much about my name...
Growing up, I knew one other female named Jamie besides myself, but she spelt it Jaime (which I thought was a Spanish spelling?). I knew lots of boys, though....
I used to work for a gift store, and on merchandise w/names, "Jamie" was always under the guys, and "Jaymee" was under the girls!
My sister helped me develop a complex when I was younger, though...she said that since I had a boys' name, I'd grow up to be a boy lol! Guess some things she didn't know so well!
Karen* 08-10-2006, 05:03 AM My dad wanted to name me either Vivian or Katrina.
