Hello!
Ok, you can tell by my name that I love "Benson" and Robert Guillaume also starred in "Sports Night", so I'm interested in seeing it. Can anyone give me some info? How is Robert's character similar/different in each of these shows?
Also, is it being aired somewhere right now or is it off the airwaves?

He plays the boss, the executive producer/managing editor of a TV sports show, but his character is similar to Benson - smart, sarcastic, but with a warm heart under the tough exterior.
I don't think it's still on the air, but the complete series is on DVD. I have it, and watch it often. It had a great ensemble cast and excellent writing. As a fan of Robert Guillaume, however, you should be warned that he did suffer a stroke during the show's run, but it was written into the series and handled with a great deal of sensitivity and affection.
Robert Guillaume was great in "Sportsnight." He really did bring a nice air of authority and dignity to his character.
And as Pintimento said, they handled Mr. Guillaume's stroke with great care. He still turned in a wonderful performance.

Thanks for the info. It sounds like it would be good, and funny, but of course humor is a personal thing. What's funny to one person might not be to another.
But I understand there's some drama in the show too. So I guess it's more like a "dramedy" then. :)

Yes, Sportsnight was a dramedy, which is proboably why it never caught on. ABC really had no idea how to market it.
They tried to put in a laugh track (ala M*A*S*H) but it was so out of place.

Thanks to everyone who responded. I may just pick it up on DVD if the price is right. I never saw the show but from what I've heard and read, and the fact that Robert Guillaume is on the show, I'm sure I can't go wrong. :D

This is the first show I EVER bought on DVD. It is without a doubt worth the price. I think it was 60 bucks when it first came out, and I'd pay it again. You can probably still pick it up at Amazon dot com, and I've actually seen copies in a few Borders/Barnes & Noble and video stores.
SPORTS NIGHT=really good.
