division? I do since the AL Wildcard race is so close. It's a must that one of these teams win the AL East if they want to enter the postseason

BTW Red Sox Fans: It's not a good sign going into the playoffs that they keep getting DOWN early and having to come back. I don't care how good of a clutch player Ortiz-lol You can't depend on COMEBACKS in the postseason

Solomon, my husband told me to tell you that the Red Sox are going nowhere. Their pitching is terrible and no bench.

I agree that the Sox or the Yanks will have to win the division to get in the playoffs. Although, the White Sox are a struggling team right now. One team I do not want to face in the playoffs is the Minnesota Twins.

That hasn't happened since 1993. The way Boston is playing, the Yanks will win the division once again.

Yes, they'll miss the playoffs, since the wildcard will most definitely go to the Twins.

Let's just hope Liriano will be back in action as soon as possible.

How big of a lead do the Twins have over the Red Sox for the AL Wildcard?

Twins: two games over the Red Sox, but right now the White Sox are the wild card leaders, a game over the Twins.

Chicago 72 - 49
Minnesota 71 - 50
Boston 69 - 52

As a non-Yankee/or Red Sox fan I look it at like this.

The Red Sox are now screwing themselves royally.
They will be lucky if they make the playoffs - and regardless they aren't going to the World Series.

Th Yankees and their fans can do all the dances in the world.
Let's see them get past the first round of the playoffs.
I'm serious and to any Yankee fan- you know how that has bit you on the ass in the last few seasons.

Yankees fans can't get too excited anyway because anything less than a Championship is a disappointing season-lol

And incredibly embarrassing when a team with a payroll 1/2 or less of theirs wins it. Or beats them in any round.

If the Red Sox are not in the playoffs, the Yankees can beat anyone in the AL to go to the World Series. Anaheim might be tough to beat though, if they even make it to the playoffs. Those are the two teams they really have to worry about because they own the rest of the AL.
I'm not scared of the White Sox or Tigers. The Twins are scarier than them. One of those will not make it.

That doesn't include 2 playoff defeats in the last 4 years. The Angels are a serious threat to the Yanks. The Angels won a 5 game series with Adam Kennedy, Kevin Appier, Garrett Anderson, and John Lackey as their superstars.

While I'm very happy the Yankees took ALL five games from Boston (never dreamed that would ever happen) I've been a Yankees fan long enough to know that you NEVER count Boston out until it's mathematically impossible for them. Boston is still a very good team and has plenty of time to catch up - but I think if they make it to the playoffs it will be with the wildcard. I'm still hoping for a World Series Subway series like we had in 2000

Ortiz-Ramirez is the most deadliest 1-2 combo in the majors I think, but the Red Sox have a lot of wholes on their team that do not make them really playoff material.
First, their starting pitching is very inconsistent, just Schilling is having a great season.
Second, the bullpen is so weak. Tampa Bay or Kansas City might have a better bullpen. Papelbon is the only bright spot and he is still a rookie.
Third, while their offense is still good, it is no where near good as the last few years. There is no protection after Ramirez, as you saw last night when Rivera intentionally walked him.

The Yankees have a much better stable team. Starting pitching isn't the best, but good enough. The bullpen is excellent and their hitting is of course A-material even without Matsui and Sheffield. If you take away Ortiz and Ramirez, Boston would be like Kansas City.

Who I think will make it to the postseason from the AL: Yankees (AL East), Tigers (AL Central), A's (AL West), and Twins (AL Wildcard). Twins or White Sox can make it, but I think we might see an upset and see the world champs out of the postseason. Boston still of course has a shot, since they have Ortiz & Ramirez, but it just doesn't look good right now after "The Son of the Boston Massacre."

Just my thoughts...

I have this dumbass co-worker who was going on and on about the Yankees beating the Red Sox this weekend: "Boston Massacre!!! Boston Massacre!!!" Just going crazy about how well the Yanks did, I assume because he knows I'm a Mets fan and he feels like Yankees success is supposed to make me feel bad. He doesn't get that my focus is on how the Mets are doing, and not what the Yankees are doing. He seems to think that the Mets and Yankees are competing with each other already. I'll be concerned if/when the Mets face them in the World Series. So now because my stupid co-worker was acting like an idiot today over an August series, we're not talking anymore.
