Yeah, him and John Amos sounds like they are both saying Temporary Layoffs. For Bookman, especially in season 5, during the opening credits, when they show him and Penny, with him nealing down talking to Penny, that part comes on, and it sounds like he is singing that part.

I believe this has been discussed before. But yeah, it sounds like the cast singing the beginning. It sounds like:
Bookman: "Anytime you need a payment" & "Anytime you're out from under"
Willona: "Anytime you need a friend" & "Easy credit rip offs"
James: "Temporary lay offs"
JJ: "Scratchin & survivin"
Thelma: "Hangin' in a chow line"

Jim Gilstrap and Blinky Williams
Jeff Barry/Ja'net Dubois composed "Movin' On Up", the theme song to 'The Jeffersons', a spin-off series (1975-85) from 'All In The Family'. The theme song was performed by Ja'net Dubois & Oren Waters.
Ja'net Dubois is an actress as well as a singer & composer. She played the part of Wilona on 'Good Times'. Because she had a role in Good Times and was know as a singer, many incorrectly assumed that hers was the voice heard on the 'Good Times' theme song when in reality it was Blinky's.
James Gilstrap, one of the backing vocalists for Stevie Wonder's Wonderlove, has provided backing vocals for more bands and artists than one might think, most notably the opening lines of "You Are the Sunshine of My Life". Trying out his hand at a somewhat unsuccessful solo career in the mid-1970s (Swing Your Daddy, Love Talk), Gilstrap has dedicated his career to providing the support that all lead vocalists need to juice up their songs just a little more. Gilstrap has also provided the male lead vocals for the 1970s hit TV show Good Times theme song, and provided backing vocals for Quincy Jones, Michael Jackson, and other top artists
BLINKY (Sandra Williams) was signed to Motown for a number of years & although she was assigned to a number of their labels; Motown, Gordy (with Edwin Starr), Soul (withdrawn stuff), Mowest, etc, she had only a few releases.
Numerous releases were scheduled on her but then pulled including 2 LP's (one I believe to be titled 'The Temptations present Blinky'.
What's the full story....... ???
I have her version of "God Bless The Child" on a German Various Artist Tamla Motown LP from 1972 (gospelly version as to be expected from this former gospel singer). I don't think this was released (on her) back in the US.
She later went to cut for Reprise with Micky Stevenson but her stay at Motown must have been frustrating.
