RetroLipgloss 12-03-2015, 07:43 PM If the offer still stands....can I purchase a copy of the set? yanksno1 12-03-2015, 08:51 PM Found these on sell dot com, don't know if the OP is the same seller but was able to get them for $14.95. Quality is about a 4 or a 5 out of 10, but at least watchable. Since I doubt it'll be coming on DVD anytime soon, at least you can watch it this way. So great watching this show again. It seriously needs to be released on DVD! RetroLipgloss 12-03-2015, 10:01 PM Thank you! I appreciate you telling me this! It's probably a dvd-r copy of vhs recordings from like 1991 lol! I'll take it though. Thank you again. yanksno1 12-03-2015, 10:47 PM Thank you! I appreciate you telling me this! It's probably a dvd-r copy of vhs recordings from like 1991 lol! I'll take it though. Thank you again. Yup, that's exactly what it is. Actually quality is more like a 3 or a 4 out of 10. A 5 was probably stretching it haha. But still watchable. If you have any trouble finding it, let me know. clanoftheduck 01-27-2016, 08:24 PM Thank you! I appreciate you telling me this! It's probably a dvd-r copy of vhs recordings from like 1991 lol! If this is the set I believe it to be I had a hand in contributing to it. wayyyyyy back in 99 I traded my recorded copies to a friend who had a couple as well .... we then went on a several year long quest to find the ones we didn't have and eventually created a 10 disc set of the series that went into the mass trading community... sometime around 2007 or so. Again.. if this is that same set.. there should be quite a mishmash of sources. The episodes I contributed were all from the original airings on ABC .. some even had the in between bumpers from the very first years of ABC's TGIF lineup which JTTOU was a part of in it's original run. Where the cast would introduce the upcoming shows for the night. Other shows that fill in the holes came from other peoples recordings of it's syndication run on USA network after the series was cancelled on ABC and ran til I think 96 on that station. You are totally right about it likely being from old VHS copies.. with a few exceptions of 2 to 3 episodes on TVLand this show hasn't aired on TV here in the states since the 90's.. long before Tivo, DVD recorders, or even DVD PC Burners. :D As to quality I would say the low grades people have given on here are spot on. Unfortunately I know several of my eps were recorded on 'rabbit ear' reception.. hey back in the day when my folks recorded them we didnt have cable ..haha. But then you can also see where the filler episodes from other sources were 2nd or 3rd (or worse) generation VHS copies. And as those of us old time traders know.. back in the days of VHS trading it was really tough to get clear copies of anything since VHS degrades with each new recording and very few people that were active enough in the trading communities to have enough content to trade rarely had first gen copies of things available. Thank goodness for DVD recorders and DVD-R's though... it finally helped end that generation degradation and helped preserve these old TV goodies from deteriorating even worse from overcopying since DVD is (almost) lossless when done in 2 hour or HQ recording modes. As far as I know that set is the only complete one out there and while I can't personally say I would sell it for that much I will say that it is totally watchable with not too much squinting necessary. This is my all time favorite 80's show.. I wish they'd do something real with it.... either air on a retro network or allow ShoutFactory to put it out. ... KonfusionFTC 01-27-2016, 09:49 PM I've been trading for a looooong time and I've yet to see another set in circulation.. this set was made by kimsavage from vhs recordings her mom did from USA Network.. Id love to get a better set thats for sure. if someone has some clean recordings id make some awesome menus for the set. this set id only recommend to someone who really loves the show. the quality is barely watchable in todays standards. I know that we sourced USA recordings to fill in the missing pieces we didn't have from our collections to make our set I mentioned here in this thread. A few of my friends episodes were USA episodes as well but all of the episodes I have and that we put in our set are from ABC and those number roughly 10 to 15. I am obviously completely wrong that our set was the first or only one.. you see I've traded for this set at best 3 times over the years.. hoping to get upgrades where I could. But oddly all three times it turned out to be our set we made with the ABC eps added in .... vs being the solely USA recordings from the Savage collection that you have mentioned. So for that reason I guess I just always assumed the set being passed around was ours. And also for that reason stopped trying to trade for it.. I'm sure had I not given up I would have eventually gotten the other set. Just want to state that I wasn't trying to take away from someone else's work by any means. Just going by what I've witnessed in trying to trade for better copies.. and always ending up with the set I already had with my eps in it .. lol. SO ... with that I also should add it is very possible my friend sourced the missing eps from Miss Savages collection. I can check on that. You are definitely correct in that the episode quality can't even sort of compare to today's standards in TV. But you hit the nail on the head with the fact that if you are Ten's fan it's about the best we can get for now.. sadly. Here's one tip I've been trying to follow up on but haven't gotten anywhere with. MAybe other JTTOU fans on here know more about it and can help.. I've been planning to start a thread on this by itself but will put it here too. In 2008/2009 I found a sold out iOffer post of someone selling this series.. the only difference was that the person was located in Australia or New Zealand. In the ad it said that JTTOU had aired there on some network and it was fairly recently (again, this was 2008 or so) so as that the seller was claiming the quality to be 9 or better as it was a direct copy and not a VHS transfer. I've googled this to death since then and just haven't gotten anywhere with it. The ad never said what network and the seller had left the site by the time I had found it so I couldn't follow through with questions to them about it for more info. But I keep it in the back of my head.. if one person recorded it and had it for sale there surely others bought or traded for it, or recorded it themselves. And if it was aired in the age of DVD recorders as they claimed the chances for nice clean copies of it is pretty good. The search continues though :( ..... RetroLipgloss 01-27-2016, 11:14 PM I actually never got around to purchasing the set because of what I hear the picture quality is like. I'm not a stickler for pristine quality but 3-4 out of 10 must be pretty bad. I'm holding out hope that a distributor like Mill Creek Ent. will one day release something from the show. clanoftheduck 01-28-2016, 12:23 AM Retro, Exactly..haha. That's kind of what I was trying to say in my first post when I mentioned I wouldn't pay that for it.... meaning that I didn't really think it was worth 15 bucks.. especially if they want shipping too. I would love to see this series come to DVD too. The unfortunate part is that one of the things that made the series fun is one of the things keeping it from a DVD release. And that would be The Lubbock Babes! While there are many reasons for any show to not get a DVD release by a small or large distribution company, Everything I've read over the years about JTTOU comes down to licensing rights and primarily music related rights. And while there were other popular songs used in the series it points mostly to the Lubbock Babes performances. They sang some pretty big hits like "We Are Family" "Soul Deep" "You're No Good" and iconic songs like "Born To Be Wild" and "Rock Around The Clock" Broadway and movie tunes like "Demon Barber Of Fleet Street" and "Dominique" and even a Beatles song "Just To Dance With You" That on it's own makes music rights tough but in this case most of the complete song was performed in the series vs just a quick clip or snippet as songs are often used in other shows. And not only that but the song was prominently featured rather than background noise. So more song / more prominence means more of a deal that needs to be brokered. So many shows that come to DVD work around this by taking out the music or replacing it.. but again, that's easier to not miss as much when it's in the background. In the case of the Lubbock Babes the song is a part of the show so whole scenes would need to be cut or those particular episodes completely cut from the set since trying to splice in replacement songs over them actually 'singing' them would look ridiculous in how the lip syncing would be off.. not to mention the voices different. Just The Ten Of Us just wouldn't quite be the same without The Lubbock Babes... or with a poor imitation of them spliced in. Licensing rights have been the scourge of so many cool series not getting DVD / BluRay releases  I wish back in the 70's or maybe in the 60's. When popular music had first started showing up in TV shows (and movies) that some enterprising exec who was a forward thinker and years ahead of his time had theorized that some day in the future there would be a way to view these things in the home market and had set up licensing rights to accomodate that..................Instead of distributors not figuring it out til the late 90's or early 00's. So that all of the content made before then wasn't so terribly difficult to get on some form of media ;) .... bh7812 01-31-2016, 07:45 AM ^Tye problem is from everything Ive read about music rights, back in the 80s, if I'm understanding it right, the music rights were negotiated for first run airings of the shows first. Then they did negotiate for home recordings/use but the wording was something really general like "For future media types and distribution methods" or something like that. Because they didn't specifically state "DVD" or "Digital download distribution" back then they're having to re-negotiate and do all these music clearances again now for DVD, blu Ray, and digital distribution. I can sort of understand...who knew 30 frickin years ago these would be the distribution methods and media we'd be using now? There was no way to know then so outside of first run broadcast and maybe VHS rights there was literally no way to specify it all exactly then so it'd all be covered. It's made everything now a royal headache and I hope all these studios and artists can come to an agreement and create a standard for all this so we can get the remaining unreleased shows released. I too want this show released in some form...I'll take physical or digital either one is find for me. I'm not obsessed with resolution or PQ but from experience...yeah if the set the OP is offering is a 3 to 4 in quality we're better off waiting for Warner to get it out officially. If it were a 5, 6 or a 7 I'd be okay with that. Warner is starting to get there finally and releasing more stuff. If we're patient just a bit longer it should show up. Of mets82 02-22-2016, 05:31 PM 10 DVDs? I didnt think the show was on THAT long to warrant 10 DVDs. CampBlood 02-24-2016, 02:55 AM It sucks that Warner Bros. enforces their copyright on youtube despite having no apparent plans on doing anything with the show again (other than helping it become forgotten). I've been going nuts looking for episodes online and I know a few on the FB fan page have as well. I'm gonna order the DVD set soon and upload everything to veehd. Why that hasn't been done already is a mystery to me. BrandonP 01-14-2017, 02:09 PM Are these DVDs still available? This show popped back into my head the other day and I can't believe that it's not available to watch online anywhere. captain59 04-22-2017, 01:20 AM I wish they would at least show it again on some channel in syndication. |
