The Yankees have way too many outfielders. Abreu, Crosby, Cabrera, Bernie, Sheffield and Matsui when they are healthy, and Damon. 3 of them are going to have to either sit on the bench or go back to the minors.

Crosby is a backup outfielder. Sheffield and Matsui won't be ready until September and if they do comeback, there is no garauntee they will be ready. They had serious surgeries on their wrists. Bernie Williams in NOT an everyday player anymore so this isn't a bad move at all.

Don't forget, they also got Cory Lidle who will be a good fifth starter for them.

There's a pretty good chance that Sheffield will DH for the remainder of the season and Giambi will return to 1st base. If they pick up Sheff's option for next season (which I believe they will), he will be the regular DH with Giambi just DHing once or twice a week. I believe Matusi and Sheff will be back to their old forms when they return. Crosby will most likely go to the minors until Sept. 1 when the rosters expand to 40, due to Aaron Guiel's recent hitting surge. I haven't heard a thing about Cano and when he's supposed to be back.
