when Ralph and Norton were going to drink wine to celebrate being Head of the House, Alice poured out the Wine and replaced it with GRAPE JUICE. So if Ralph and Norton were drinking GRAPE JUICE, how the hell did they get drunk while sitting at the tabler?-lol Grape Juice doesn't get you Drunk

Of course grape juice doesn't get you drunk, that's what made it funny. But in THEIR minds they believed it was wine, and because Ralph was determined to prove a point, by power of suggestion alone they honestly thought they were getting drunk.

It also superbly set up the line later in the show when Ralph told Norton that he woke up with a hangover, but a nice cold glass of grape juice snapped him out of it!

...the 1930 Laurel & Hardy two-reeler, "Blotto". Ollie gets Stan to sneak out of his house to join him in a "speakeasy" and share a bottle of wine Stan's been hiding from the missus. However, Mrs. Laurel catches on, and before Stan leaves, she pours the wine out, substituting "cold tea" instead. As the boys "enjoy" themselves in the illicit nightclub, Mrs. Laurel calmly buys a shotgun, enters the joint, sits at a nearby table and waits for the exact moment when they're "smashed" before revealing what the bottle REALLY contained. They "sober" up rather quickly, and make a run for it as she starts shooting at them. Jackie Gleason was big fan of Stan & Ollie, and liked the comparisons between what they did and what he and Art Carney did.......
