which in your opinion is the strongest? I am torn on what to buy first. I don't remember seeing season 1. Any help would be appreciated. I liked this show in the later seasons though.

I truly think TMTMS got better every season, so I would say Season 4. The addition of Sue Ann did wonders for the show. You just can't go wrong w/ Betty White, hehe. That's my 2 cents' worth. ;)

Hope that helps. And please let us know what you think after you buy it!

I really am torn. My gut reaction is to buy season 4 because I know I really liked it, but why buy a series starting at the 4th season? Would I get too lost if I started at 4?

Suggestion........

Get Season 1 and Season 2 right NOW (because Amazon has knocked these babies down by 50% as of this writing on 07/27/2006, just like they did to these same sets a few months ago; I guess it's going to be a regular price-slashing thing with these).

Anyway, as of this writing, you can get all of Seasons 1 and 2 (48 total MTM episodes) for a mere bag of shells ($29.94), plus Free Shipping, since it's over a $25 order! :)

And these two seasons are the ones with bountiful bonus features as well....3 hours' worth of documentaries, including a great behind-the-scenes piece on the S.2 set ("Moore On Sunday"), which features Mary and Valerie filming the S.4 opening titles in Minneapolis. Lots of other great bonuses too.

Who could ask for more Moore....for less than thirty clams too? :)

Hurry up, though....before the price goes back up. .....

I'd say that Season 4 is the strongest of the ones that are out. But I'd probably start with Season 1, since it's the beginning, and there are a lot of great episodes in that one too.

I agree with the other posts season 4 to me,is the best so far,Ted Knight is cracking in every scene he is in,Betty White is a great addition as Sue-Ann,and amongst all the comedy, you've hearfelt moments too, like Lou and Edie separating.
The writers and cast are all giving 100 percent and it really shows!

^^^I can't stand Ted. He's such a selfish inane blowhard and he takes up too much screen time that could have gone to the much better Murray instead. Ted was a lot better in season 1 when he wasn't on nearly as much and was more of a one-dimensional gag IMO.

Ted annoyed me in season1,when he was just vain and stupid but he became a likeable fool from season 2 onwards and giving him a girlfriend Georgette made him more likeable and the writers just made him funnier and funnier.
I do agree with you about Murray,he doesn't seem to get many major stories to himself in seasons 3 and 4 and as many of the TMTMS cast have said,Murray was the most difficult role in the show, and that some actors might have complained about the lack of screen time butGavin MacLeod loved the part so much,he was delighted to be in the show and his character give so much warmth to the newsroom and his love for Mary was very sweet too and his love for his family even more so.

I think he's better in season 1 because his character is diminished. When they flesh him out more and give him more screen time it lets him create more havoc on the other characters, and I can't stand seeing Ted try to take advantage of or annoy them. I do love Georgette though, she's a peach, lol.
