I think Spirit in the Sky might be Norman Greenbaum's only hit. I think I've heard him be referred to as a one-hit wonder before.

There was a newer version released in the UK a few years ago by a singer called Gareth Gates, who won the British Talent Show Pop Idol - basically the same as American Idol. I prefer the original, though.

I love that song. That music is different and incredible. Great song.

The song brought a lot of attention back in the early 70's because it was the first of many to make references to Jesus, who had become a sort of pop icon
by then. Greenbaum, in fact, was Jewish.
