View Full Version : The Brady Kids were real bratty in season 1
GARFIELDKOOL 07-22-2006, 01:30 PM Being pests when they all came down with the measles, Cindy acting bitchy whenher doll was missing, the boys and girls fighting over a clubhouse, alll of them being asses when it came to using the phone, forcing Mr. Brady to install a pay phone, Bobby not feeling loved, etc. They were bad in season 1.
I'm surprised Mike and Carol didn't start drinking. They had a good reason to.
BuddyHinton 07-22-2006, 11:24 PM I prefer this season because they wer like REAL kids. Pains is the as....

They were bratty every season-lol They seemed to be sent out more in the next few seasons.

And don't forget Peter letting his good, heroic deed go to his swelling head, which got everyone irritated, after saving that little girl from that falling shelf at Driscoll's toy store. Of course, there were like a few nice things those kids did. Like Marcia surprising Mike by nominating him Father of the Year, Cindy's Christmas wish for Carol, who had laryngitis, to get her voice back in time for the Christmas church service in that holiday episode, the kids' help in investigating on who sent that locket to Jan and how it got lost when it disappeared later, the kids making Alice feel needed, and the kids helping around the house when Alice sprained her ankle while Carol was away.
OKCRay 07-29-2006, 03:25 AM JMHO, but I'll bet a lot of this can be attributed to the first season being really the only season where the "blended family issue" was a huge part of the story lines, and lots of the perceived "brattiness" may stem from blended family conflict (which is why most of the "boys vs. girls" battles occurred during the first season). All other seasons drastically downplayed the "blended family" element with relatively few mentions (mostly coming from how long Mike and Carol had been married at a given point in time).
BuddyHinton 07-29-2006, 02:56 PM ^I agree, and to the shows detriment.

Weren't we all brats growing up? We were all pains, the only difference is that they were on TV.

I was a pain as kid, but not like them. What ticked me off about them is that they all acted that way to get their own way. I hate kids who get their own way.

Yeah, true. But don't we all like getting our own ways in life? Don't we all? LOL!
OKCRay 01-23-2007, 05:18 AM They were probably at their brattiest during the measles episode, between fighting over the doctors and the way they ordered Mike, Carol and Alice around. I know if I ever told my father "Well give it to the king and get me some bologna!" the way Greg said that to Mike I'd be smacked upside my head.
Novus 01-31-2007, 07:30 PM Hey, at least their behavior was somewhat realistic then. Everything got too predictable later on...
For some reason their yelling at each other in the first season gets on my nerves more than it does in other seasons. Whether it was louder, higher pitched, or lasted longer I don't know.

My, you can't possibly be talking about all of US???
You must be thinking about some OTHER kids out there!
Lucy&BradyFan 06-04-2007, 06:47 AM Kids will be kids. This season was a good way to begin this series as it showed them as ordinary kids and we watch them grow with maturity through to Season 5.

Well put and good point there.
airhead 07-10-2007, 08:00 PM They had some major problems getting along that season.
But they were cute brats, weren't they? Can you imagine having to share your parent with 3 new siblings, its a wonder they didn't fight even more. lol!
caladon 07-13-2007, 01:14 AM As far as their early behavior; kids are kids. But what I didn't much care for was the passive parenting that was demonstrated by the so-called adults. The phone episode as mentioned earlier is a prime example. Lay down the rules for the phone use; if they continue to violate them, punishment is next. Each kid who abused their phone privileges is suspended from using the phone. If they don't like it; too bad.
In the case of the trading stamps; for crying out loud, flip a coin. Winner takes all.
The clubhouse. Teaching to share is fine, but let's not forget to teach the kids to respect each others privacy and personal property.
Marcia promising Davy Jones, and Bobby claiming to know and have dinner with Joe Namath: When any other parent would've rightly told their kids to quickly admit they were wrong and take the consequences, Mom and Dad Brady and the other kids pulled out all stops to try and save the kid's rep. Raising your kids with a "don't worry, Mom and Dad will bail you out" attitude is not condusive to building good character.
So true, caladon. I find that especially true with the Getting Davy Jones ep. But then again, I suppose if everything had been done right, we wouldn't have much plot, or at least not an interesting one. :)

Good point, SKay. We need something for plots or it'd be dull and boring.
