View Full Version : What does (or did) your Mother cook the best?
Janice 07-22-2006, 11:54 AM My mother cooked the best roast beef dinners ever. Cooked perfectly with homemade gravy, mashed potatoes, fresh green beans, corn and bisquits. As adults, she would cook this dinner for our birthdays.
She also made the most delicious Thanksgiving dinner with all the fixins', the best that I've ever had and probably ever will have.
Her strawberry shortcake was to die for. She used an angel food cake ring, homemade whipped cream, and a big tub of those frozen strawberries.

Come on Matt, she's gotta have a couple of specialty dishes...your favorites? ;)
Mr. Television 07-22-2006, 12:02 PM She made the best homemade Chilli in the world. That's one dish I really miss. She also made great potato salad and Banana pudding. All the Holiday dinners were always so good. She hated cooking but she was a great cook. I regret I never got any of her recipes.
EmoJoe 07-22-2006, 12:10 PM she makes the best pasta EVER cause she doesnt buy the sauce or meatballs, she actually cooks them. and she also makes good chicken cutlets...and tacos :happyface
Brian Damage 07-22-2006, 12:14 PM My mother was never the best cook in the world, but she did make a good pot of sauce. I think all Italians will know what I speak of. ;)

Seriously though, my mother makes everything good. She makes the best calzones and chicken marsala too.
Karen64 07-22-2006, 03:12 PM Chicken-Ritz casserole! Yummmmmmmmm...
lilhave 07-22-2006, 03:29 PM My mother made the best beef stew I ever tasted, and man was it tasty. Dip bread in the gravy and when my mother made it, you smelled it down the block.
For desert, I can still taste her bread pudding. Clogged up the arteries but out of this world.

Courtnee 07-22-2006, 03:57 PM My mom makes stuff, but nothing jumps out to me as the best. My dad, however, makes the greatest, spiciest, most delicious Dear Meat Chili(TM)
Everytime he makes it, it's usually for a chili cookoff or a chili tasting contest. I get a good 3 bowls before everyone eats it, though.
Fleet 07-22-2006, 04:02 PM My mom used to make very good macaroni. She made her own gravy. Now I cook macaroni, but I use Prego gravy (which tastes quite good).
My dad also cooked a lot. Not sure what his specialty was.
swedeace 07-22-2006, 04:40 PM Mmmm.... my mom makes really tasty meatloaf, potato salad, green chile stew, and red chile enchiladas! And I'm sure there's more, but I can't list everything. The list would be too long.

lilhave 07-23-2006, 05:08 PM Wow! Meatloaf. Haven't had it in years. When I worked in the city, right near the office was a restaurant that made the most delicious meatloaf. Good and spicy, with mashed potatoes and string beans. Good dish.

My Mother makes a few great pasta dishes. Her pene with vodka sauce is really tasty.
She also makes a great macaroni salad.
Kraft macaroni and cheese. And Banquet's fried chicken with corn and mashed potatoes.
My favorite thing my mom make is probably her Mexican Lasagna. Oh and she makes this jello with cherry pie filling that I love.
cmcb06 07-24-2006, 03:22 PM My mom used to make the absolute best Lasagna, and Porcupines (Hamburger rolled up in rice and put in tomato sauce). But after she was diagnosed with Alzheimers 4 years ago her memory is pretty well shot and can't cook for anything anymore. So now i do most of the cooking.
lilhave 07-24-2006, 04:27 PM I can remember as a kid my mother going to the butcher, purchasing and making the best fried chicken livers I ever tasted. Fried with Bacon and potatoes, with onions, nothing tasted better. Of course I then drank my Ovaltine in my Capt, Midnight mug. If the Capt. said it was good for me, who was I to argue. You could drink it hot or cold, and oh so good.
