View Full Version : DVD news???
anyone found out any more info on future releases.
i've said it b4 and i'll say it again, i'm frustrated with all the shows still on air being released on dvd and a lot of the classics get nada.
i really, really, really want season sets of catm
Cheryl Harrell 07-21-2006, 10:36 PM I agree with ya. It is so frustrating that they are relasing new nowadays shows on dvd & not the old classics like CATM. I want all the eps on dvd, even the Raul ones to complete my collection. I sure hope they release them. I am dying here lol...
Luckymama58 07-22-2006, 09:49 AM I was hoping that the success of the AOL HIQ online would convince Time Warner to release them on DVD.... I wonder how many people download the episodes.... I wish there was some way to find out.... I download and watch them faithfully, but it is fustrating that I can't keep them.... The site won't let you.... I WANT THE DVD'S!!!!!!
what do you mean you can't keep them what happens? and where do you go to get them

I am not sure how this site really works, but when you download the episodes, they only are saved in a library you create on their site, and you can watch them only on their viewer when you are connected to the internet. And when they no longer have that episode on their site, the link is broken and you can't watch it anymore.

mlingerfelt 08-26-2006, 08:22 AM come on WB release season sets of CATM.
i wish there was a way we could contact them and let them know what we want
mlingerfelt 08-26-2006, 10:01 PM are there any way we can start a petition.
mlingerfelt 12-23-2006, 01:31 AM any word on season sets
i was wondering that too, maybe 2007 will be the year they FINALLY release it on dvd....here's hoping
mlingerfelt 12-29-2006, 01:27 PM I am hoping for season sets in 2007.
Heidelberg 12-30-2006, 03:41 PM I have heard that production companies like to hold out on popular shows to build demand but this is ridiculous. I hate conspiracy theories but there has to be more than just WB dragging there feet. Maybe its legal issues.
mlingerfelt 12-31-2006, 12:40 AM seem like they want to drag their feet.
mlingerfelt 02-18-2007, 04:49 PM do we have an update.
mlingerfelt 02-25-2007, 03:29 PM I know there coming out with Welcome Back Kotter in June. so maybe CATM is next.
mlingerfelt 03-03-2007, 10:00 AM still waiting for season sets all 4 seasons.
Cheryl Harrell 05-02-2007, 07:06 AM I wonder if this article means that CATM will be released in a season set (even tho the show isn't mentioned specifically)?

WKRP, Kotter finally debut on DVD
Classic shows among first season sets street in next few months
By Susanne Ault 4/27/2007
APRIL 27 | Studios this spring are releasing a flurry of first-season TV DVD titles into a maturing disc category.
Upcoming “classic” or nostalgia series making their DVD debuts include 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment’s WKRP in Cincinnati and Warner Home Video’s Welcome Back, Kotter and The Drew Carey Show.
A variety of reasons have prevented these titles from hitting disc earlier. Music rights issues dogged WKRP, which will be released with extensive music substitutions, and Warner tried select episode compilations of Kotter and Drew Carey under the TV Favorites banner before deciding to release them in full seasons. (See table)
“Part of the idea with the TV Favorites line was to gauge interest in those shows, but it was hard to do because most TV fans want to buy the whole season,” said Rosemary Markson, Warner VP of TV marketing. “We feel complete sets are the dominant way to go and what you’ll be seeing in the future from us.”
Markson said the TV Favorites line is indefinitely on hold. If the studio sees acceptable sales figures on initial seasons of older shows, the series’ subsequent seasons will then be launched.
For the most part, retailers seem pleased to have fresh product, regardless of the timing.
“It would be a shame if everything [TV DVD] had been rushed out all at once, and there was nothing left to release,” Virgin Megastores’ product manager Bob Bell said. “Our TV on DVD business is still very strong and will benefit from titles like WKRP and Kotter that our customers grew up with. I’m much more optimistic about an older series that may have a cult following compared to the average current mainstream sitcom.”
WKRP is being singled out as one of the better first-season prospects. Newbury Comics buyer Ian Leshin believes the late ’70s sitcom should about equal sales of earlier seasons of CBS Top 20 primetime series King of Queens.
“There’s a guy factor,” which matches the heaviest TV DVD buyers, said Leshin of WKRP. “It’s like Hogan’s Heroes or M.A.S.H. where there is also a cult following.”
Still, retail sources believe that, on average, a nostalgia set will sell half or less of what a current series set will sell on DVD.

Luckymama58 05-02-2007, 06:25 PM I hope we see CATM soon!
(BTW there is discussion about them changing the opening song on GLo's DVDs and I wonder if that might be a problem, copyright issues with music... one never knows. I would hope that Jose Feliciano wouldn't have a problem with CATM's theme song being released with the show, but it might not be all him.... more than the artist sometimes own copyrights... DON'T MISREAD THIS: I have no idea what is holding up the release of CATM, I am just speculating here)

BE CAREFUL when you purchase these CATM DVD's from sell.com. I purchased the set in March and someone got my charge card number and really purchased a lot of things! We had to cancel that card and make lots and lots of calls about it. WHAT A MESS!!!!!

Cheryl Harrell 05-15-2008, 03:17 AM Is the site safe if we sent them a money order for them? Good to know that about the card. Thanks for the heads up...

I'm sure the site would be safe if you sent a money order Cheryl. I guess every time you use your charge card now-a-days you run the risk of having someone get ahold of your number unfortunately. We've gotten other things from sell.com and they were ok. It also took us over a month to get the DVD's and we had to make a couple of inquiries about the order. When we did get the the CATM DVD's the episodes were not in order and a couple episodes had REAL low sound. They had the commercials in them too. Most programs we've ordered on DVD (even from sell.com) had the commercials cut out and were in some kind of sequence. There may be more than one person selling those CATM DVD's but I can only tell you what the ones we received were like. Good luck!
hue_mee 05-16-2008, 04:37 AM Thanks for the update Catcopy. I had several episodes of CATM from the american life network when they aired them still on my dvr. I had planned to transfer them to video or to dvd to keep for myself, but my husband deleted all my CATM episodes. Now I only have the dvd that was issued out a while back. Nice to see you Catcopy!
Cheryl Harrell 05-17-2008, 02:22 AM Do you happen to know who you bought them from? That way I could buy them from someone else instead. So sorry to hear about Suzannes loss of eps ont he dvd. Ours has goofed up on us. No CATM on there as they don't have American Life on Dish Network. But I did lose some important stuff on there. Arrgh...

Cheryl we found the DVD's on sell.com but it was all done through paypal.
The seller evidently doesn't get our card number that way. So, it must be that someone at paypal got our number and used it illegally. I saw on the news where people on the internet can get any information they want to.
They can buy this information and actually your name, social security info, charge card numbers and any other personal info can be located on huge lists for these people. It's scarey but that's what ID fraud is all about I guess. We got ours straightened out but it took a while and alot of aggrevation. We've ordered lots of things on the internet and through paypal and this was the first time this has happened. I wouldn't want to scare anyone away from using paypal or anything they wanted to purchase on the internet but I guess everyone should be careful and know this CAN happen.
Cheryl Harrell 05-18-2008, 04:45 AM Thanks for the info. I don't have a Paypal acct so I guess I am okay there...
mlingerfelt 05-30-2008, 03:06 PM what is the link?
D'Gooch 05-31-2008, 01:40 AM Chico was soft, man.
Karen64 06-03-2008, 09:29 PM Chico was soft, man.
Yeah, well so are you
Karen64 06-03-2008, 09:32 PM Thanks for the update Catcopy. I had several episodes of CATM from the american life network when they aired them still on my dvr. I had planned to transfer them to video or to dvd to keep for myself, but my husband deleted all my CATM episodes. Now I only have the dvd that was issued out a while back. Nice to see you Catcopy!
That sucks!
I keep hoping American Life or TV Land will go through a run of CATM again!
D'Gooch 06-07-2008, 04:33 AM Karen64, I don't understand your personal attacks against me. I simply stated well known factual information. In fact, I do not know of anybody who does not think that Chico was soft.
Obviously Chico has femininly long hair... nobody can argue that. I am just surprised that it is not permed as well.
Prince 06-07-2008, 12:10 PM You sound jealous of Chico...lol. You must be bored when all you have time to do is post rude comments on this message board.....welcome!! We'll live through it!!
Karen64 06-07-2008, 11:50 PM Ahh, ya gotta love the 70s--most of the men back then had long hair.
And ya gotta love D'Gooch, too! A little conflict every now and then is kinda fun!
Cheryl Harrell 06-08-2008, 05:15 PM I LOVE Chicos's hair. It wasn't that long either... :) :)
hue_mee 06-08-2008, 06:43 PM Yeah I know what you mean. I used to watch the Strike episode and the epsiode with Mykloss the Gyspy and the bartering that Ed and chico did to come up with the money for the raffle. Freddie has such great hair on those two episodes. I miss watching those on my DVR.
Cheryl Harrell 06-09-2008, 06:33 PM i LOVE long hair on guys. Esp Chico... :)
Karen64 06-09-2008, 10:09 PM Chico's hair was perfect! I love the shoulder length hair with the long sideburns.
What I hate are the mullets of the 80's! :barf:
