View Full Version : Season Five discussion
BuddyHinton 07-15-2006, 01:20 PM I'm on Season Five (finally!) and was wondering what everyone thought of that Johnny Bravo music Greg "hated" that sounded "nothing like him"? I actually liked it and was wondering if that was really a song on a Barry Williams record? It definitely sounded "over-produced" but what would rock music (Ozzy anyone?) be without overproduction?
Do you think Barry worked out? He seemed awfully "toned". Did actors really work out back then?
Did Joe Namath do any other acting? He seems stilted but has a nice warmth about him.
Were there promo's for the final season saying "This is IT!" ala Friends, Seinfeld?
In many ways I'm surprised it even lasted 5 seasons. Bob's scrapes with Llyod and Sherwood and from my understanding the ratings were never that great. I do think 5 seasons is the PERFECT amount for a series before they get all "Mash" on your ass:) Three is too little (Kung Fu, Star Trek), but Five is perfect... like my Alias:)~

The Amusement Park ep is the one that STANDS OUT to me
-TRANCE- 07-15-2006, 03:47 PM Season Five was fun! A few of my favorites were..
Getting Greg's Goat
The Driver's Seat
Marcia Gets Creamed
Peter And The Wolf
The Cincinnati Kids
BuddyHinton 07-15-2006, 11:24 PM But what about my... questions?
gilligan fanatic 07-15-2006, 11:26 PM Were there promo's for the final season saying "This is IT!" ala Friends, Seinfeld?
I don't think they new they were cancelled until after the last episode aired.
BuddyHinton 07-17-2006, 12:30 PM In Getting Gregs Goat, Bobby comments he hears "four" high heels in Gregs room from the "broom closet" (since when is there a broom closet? :) however when walking, both hoofs on each side should hit the ground at the same time still making it sound like ONE foot step. He must have had great hearing to discern that!
Also, umm, what High School would have a GOAT as a mascot!!? Haha!!
kooky12 07-18-2006, 12:06 PM I always thought that Getting Gregs Goat was one of the most risque episodes, becuase of the scene where Mike thinks that Rachel is a girl that Greg has upstairs. Imagine if Marcia had the attic in a similar situation and the implied joke was that she had a guy upstairs !
Waterston_Fan 07-19-2006, 12:18 AM I wondered if Bob would have had a problem with the 'Getting Greg's Goat' episode if he didn't direct it..
BuddyHinton 07-19-2006, 01:54 AM ^^good point:) I thought it was a good ep. though...., but I wonder what Bob would have said, "Who has a goat as a mascot? What about a cockroach?" had he not directed it of course:)
((though I make a jab like this, understand, I think Robert Reed was the heart and SOUL of the Brady Bunch and the main reason why you and I are on this board right now.))

I agree....If I had been able to go along with the Bradys to the Amusement Park I'd want Alice as my ride partner, she was cool enough to go on the rollercoaster.

Joe Namath did do some other acting... He had his own show at one point, called "Waverly Wonders" or something like that... I never watched it and don't know the premise of the show, but I know that's one show that Namath actually starred in. Seems to me he was a guest on a few comedy/variety shows, but I'm not sure about appearances in TV sitcoms and/or dramas.
It's true that the show never finished in the top 20 during its original network run...it achieved legendary status during its first couple of years of syndication..
I didn't watch the show the first year or so it was on, so I first 'met' the kids around the third season or so of the show... after the 5th season, when the show started going into syndication and I'd get to see the old reruns after school, I was totally shocked at how YOUNG the kids looked in the first season...
As for a "This is it" promo, nope, nothing like that ever happened... the show was cancelled after the filming of the last episode, so even the cast didn't know that "The Hair Brained Scheme" would be their final episode together. Sherwood himself did have plans for a sixth season (during which he was going to kill off Robert Reed's character, precisely because of the arguments that he and Reed constantly had).
Greg did seem to be in very good shape during the show... of course, we all know he played basketball and football for Westdale.... :) (did he ever play baseball on the high school team?... guess that's one of the many unanswered questions about the show and its characters). Can't address the 'working out' question, I've never heard anything one way or the other regarding that.
BuddyHinton 07-22-2006, 12:53 AM ^^Hmm, good answers there:)
A sixth season with Reed being KILLED would have proved to be disasterous to the tone of the show. I would rather have no 6th season than that petty trash by Sherwood, glad it never happened. IMO, Robert Reed's class and integrity is the main reason we are here on these boards right now, because his presence and stubborness for realism lifted a rather pedestrian show above the generic masses of similar "family" junk.

This scene provided one of my favorite LOL moments of the series. Mike enters the walk-in linen closet just in time to hear Greg say "Would you like having your ears rubbed? Awwwww, that feel good?"
snl 70s show fan 07-22-2006, 08:43 PM since we are on the subject of joe namith's acting if you ever get the chance chek out the so bad that its funny movie titled cc and company the whole thing is joe namith in a biker gang need i say more and he kidnaps ann margret real campy fun its on dvd if you want to check it out
Waterston_Fan 07-23-2006, 12:27 AM I think the show would have become another 'Gilligans Island' if they had Mike Brady killed off.
