I'd appreciate some thoughts/prayers for my dad.

My dad went to the eye doctor a couple of weeks ago and told him that there were periods of time randomly that he'd lose sight in one eye. That doc sent dad to a retina specialist who in turn sent dad to his primary care doc.

We got the results back today from the umpteen tests that they ran and it turns out my father has had at least one minor retina stroke. They also said that the left vein of his neck is almost completely blocked. He goes to get an MRA (similar to an MRI but for blood vessles) on Wednesday and then to a cardiologist. He will most definitely have to have surgery...without it he will have a major stroke and/or heartattack and it will probably kill him.

I can honestly say I have never been more scared in my entire life. I am in absolutely no way ready to lose my dad.

I would appreciate any thoughts/prayers you could send my dad's way.

Thanks.

D

That's terrible news. The good thing is that they discovered that blocked artery in his neck. My mother-in-law had the same thing and had an operation that fixed it. She was about 80 years old.

I will certainly keep your father in my prayers. Please keep us posted Dani.

Our family doctor called last night, he had gotten in touch with the cardiologist and dad has an appointment with him in Thursday. I'll keep y'all posted on what they say.

I appreciate it guys. The entire family is pretty worried. He had the MRA done this morning and we will get the results in about 2 hours (My parents told them we needed the results today b/c of seeing the thoracic and cardiovascular surgeon tomorrow).

At this point, the entire family is planning on coming done when they schedule the surgery. I'm half afraid they will put him in tomorrow when the doctor sees him. I've talked to my prof and told him what was going on and he told me no problem, he wouldn't expect me in glass when my dad was having surgery. He's a pretty cool guy.

Anyway, I'll post later tonight after we get the results. It'll be late b/c I have class in 2 hours then have to work on a paper that is due Monday. So it will be last when I post the results.
Again, thanks for all the support, this is a really hard time for my family.

Well, according to all the tests, the blockage is about an inch long in his left artery. THe right artery has someplaque but not as bad as the left. His appointment is tomorrow with the doctor. I'll let y'all know what he says.

Well, the doctor took one look at the MRA and asked my dad when he wanted the surgery...next week or this week? Turns out the blockage is not 75-85 percent as they were told earlier. The new test shoed it was actually 95% blocked. They asked my dad a bunch of questions and since he said no to them all they said that it was not more then 95 and could wait till next week, otherwise he was going in the hospital then.

His surgery is set for next Tuesday (July 24) in the afternoon. Since it is so late, he will stay the night at the hospital. One of my sisters and myself as well as a few friends will go with my parents to the hospital. I imagine it will be a late night that night before I get home. I'll try to get on either that night or Wednesday to let y'all know how it went.

Well, we are home from the hospital. They are keeping my dad pvernight in the ICU. They started the surgery a bit late do to other surgeries that day taking longer.

The doc came out and said everything went great no problems at all. They put him in the ICU for precautionary reasons, so they could watch his blood pressure.

They had to end up giving him some blood pressure meds b/c of conflicting numbers from the cuff on his arm and the internal one they had in one of his arteries. The cuff was showing a consistant 140-150 over 60-70. The one in the artery was jumping ALL over from 140-180 over 40-120. It being over 150 worried them so they gave him some meds to be safe. They finally decided the internal one was not relaible since it was jumping so much and are going with the cuff. However they are keeping a close eye on that tonight.

He SHOULD be able to come home tomorrow (Wednesday) if all goes well. After that the doctor said he is on bed rest for the next 2 weeks until my dad sees the doctor again. Then he will probably release him to go back to normal.

Well, I'm tired and I'm going to go crawl in bed. Have to get up early tomorrow. I have a little boy coming to cut thegrass and I have class tommorw as well.

I'll let y'all know when he comes home.

HE"S HOME!!! HE"S HOME!!!

My dad came home this morning. The doc said everything looked great. He can't do anything for 3 weeks that might elevate his blood pressure, so we should have a nice vacation with him. On the other hand, he is being a HUGE brizzly bear b/c he is stopping smoking. This is his second day without a cigarette. So far so good, other then being grouchy.

I appreciate all the thoughts and prayers. Dad is doing better. He's having ALOT of headaches but the doctor said that was normal b/c he is having more blood and oxygen going to his brain then he is used to. They say it will get better. He seems to be, so thats good.
