Veronica Mars airs on UPN on Tuesdays at 9 p.m. The CW has renewed the series for a 3rd season of 22 episodes. However, if the show doesn't do well in the ratings, The CW can reduce the episode number to 13. The show will remain in its timeslot.
Episode 3.01: Welcome Wagon

07/08 - Two new series regular will be added to the show. They will each appear in 7 out of the 13 episodes ordered. If the series gets more than 13 episodes, they may stick around. Both characters go to Hearst College. One is a 20-year-old female named Parker who is a charming party girl. The other, a love interest for Veronica, is a college freshman named Piz. 07/01 - It doesn't look like Arrested Development's Michael Cera will be making a return trip to Mars. Per Rob Thomas, Cera booked a movie and is unavailable. "We're very bummed, but surviving," Rob tells me. "We're hoping to get him in the show after his movie wraps, but the boy has many projects, so we're not banking on it." On a brighter note, Rob says Tina Majorino (Mac) is close to inking a deal to become a series regular. "She wants to be able to continue doing Big Love, which complicates things a bit, but I think it'll work out. Fingers crossed. We love her." Source: Ask Ausiello @ TV Guide
05/10 - Rob Thomas: Keith has, in fact, stood Veronica up at the airport; it's pressing enough for him. It is desperately important and Keith recognizes that. The season 2 killer is dead. They found his crumpled body on the roof of a Ford. The Hearst rapist story will be one of the three eight-episode arcs. It'll probably be 8-7-7. And that can shift. I think, ideally, we'll get an 8, 7 and a 7. But when they figure out their schedule it could be a 9, 6 and 7. Nothing is set in stone as far as those exact episode counts go, but they'll be running in three uninterrupted blocks. You won't see a Weevil trial, but he's going to go down for at least an assault. He's going to do some time. The next time we see Weevil, he has done time. But they won't be able to pin the murder on him. Tessa Thompson (Jackie) is done with the show. I would not hesitate for a second to have her come in to do an arc, but she will not be a series regular. Mac and Veronica will not be roommates at Hearst next season. It's too valuable for me to have Veronica at home playing scenes with Keith, so she will live off campus. I think both the roommates for Wallace and Mac will end up being, if not series regulars next year, then certainly major long-arc guest stars. I expect and hope that you see Michael Cera and Alia Shawkat next year, but we won't have them as series regulars. Mac's roommate and Wallace's roommate will be major players, and new to the show. Charisma Carpenter (Kendall) won't be a series regular next season. Sheriff Lamb (Michael Muhney) and Mac (Tina Majorino) are in line to become series regulars. Teddy Dunn is done with the show.
