The future of Orange is looking Grey.

Fox is ordering only 16 episodes of the Southern California teen drama The OC for next season. The normal episode order for a full season is 22, but The OC has averaged 25 for its three seasons so far, so the cutback is casting doubt about the future of the show beyond next season.

The new season of The OC doesn't premiere until November 2, due to the Major League Baseball season. According to Variety, Fox will be done with the show in February, and may look to replace it with a midseason series. The fact that most of the teen cast will be leaving high school and going to college, along with the death of a major character at the end of last season, indicates that Fox may be wrapping up the show.

The OC has slipped in the ratings this past season, and ABC announced it is moving powerhouse Grey's Anatomy opposite the show in the 9 p.m. time slot. When it premiered in August 2003, The OC averaged around 8 million viewers a week and had a high "cool factor," with popular bands playing on the show and its soundtrack. The show sank to a weekly average of 5 million viewers in the 2005-2006 season.

This just sucks. FOX has always supporeted The OC. Dammit I bet these will be the Final 16 Episodes. I want it on The CW now....

This really does suck. It looks like the final season. Even though the show isn't as good as it used to be, I'm still enjoying it. It will probably get worse next year when everyone is at college and Marissa is dead.

I doubt The OC will be done by mid-season. If Ratings do drop, FOX will commit to the 16 episodes and end The OC season early in February or March. Or Fox will air at least 4 episodes and if the ratings are horrible, send The OC to hiatus and end The OC during the summer. But FOX will defiently commit to the 16 episodes this season for the OC.

The OC competition this season is: C.S.I, Grey's Anatomy, Deal or No Deal and Supernatural

I think it'll be the last season. I think FOX will air the show From November-March. Kinda what The WB did with What I Like About You, when they cut the order last season, and what NBC did with American Dreams 2 years ago. They knew they weren't bringing the show's back, so they ended them in March and left their other shows in for May sweeps....I'll be sad if it goes, but It might be time.....ANd after next year, it'll be in Syndication, and we'll have all the dvd's, so we'll always have our OC.

Hmm interesting..I'll have to check it out.
Most shows find it hard to make that college transition...we'll see how the OC fares.

Here's the article:

O'No! "The OC" is being canceled after the fall. They finish filming the fall season in October and then they are done, says a source. And the news hasn't even been released yet. The cool part is that star Ben Mckenzie is extremely happy about it - he wants to be a movie actor and does not like the small screen.

Good luck with that big-screen career, Ben - at this time next year, you'll be wishing you had a TV show to do.
