I'm sure he was joking, LOL. B/c I don't think even a station like WJM would have a salary scale like that! I think Mary took the job b/c it was the first one offered to her, and she needed one badly in order to take the apartment. She prob. knew she didn't have a lot of experience, so it's not like she could've held out for something better.

You mean as in, the person who was hired for the secretarial job? No, I don't think you ever saw them. But in a later ep, Mary helps hire a secretary (Season 2, "Feeb") Hope that helps!

At the station, yes, but I didn't get the inference that the secretery was going to be seen on-camera. I just assumed she would be in an off-room or outside down the hall in another room.

Well said! Plus you have to remember that Lou was drunk when he made the "caboose" comment, so it's probably not something he would've said normally (at least, not in so many words). He saw something in her that he liked during the interview. I think he was kind of surprised that she had the nerve to stand up to him, so he almost had to hire her at that point.

Yes, that's right. It's from "Best of Enemies" from Season 4. But the funny thing is, we saw when he hired her back in the pilot, and nothing like that actually happened. lol He also tells a story in a later ep. about how she had a run in her stocking she kept trying to cover up. Again, there's nothing like that in the pilot! You'd think the writers would've remembered we saw it!

That's true, but every show has its consistency problems, even the meticulous minds behind I Love Lucy made a few goofs. You have to get into the mindset of these writers: they literally have about 5 days OR LESS to get a NEW script in every week in time to shoot. They probably don't know their own first names by the time each week's new script is handed in. And once that's done, that episode's checked off their list and onto the next one. Unless they are looking to seriously alter an ongoing storyline in the series, they probably never look back at old scripts because they never have the time. That's why the number on Bob Hartley's apartment changed a couple times throughout the series while the apartment itself stayed the same. So, minor mistakes in continuity are really no big deal for me; it's just the major ones (eg: Chuck's disappearance on Happy Days) that really get to me. It is a tad annoying, however, to learn something in one episode, and then a few episodes later, the story arc is altered. I doubt any of us could do any better though. The MTM production team was as good as it gets!
